Once a year?? Thats only if you ride it once a year. For a bike like that every 10 hours of riding is the norm.

BTW, there is no oil in the crank of a 2-smoker. The oil you mix in the gas actually goes down into the crank and the down stroke from the piston creates pressure and forces the oil/gas mix through the case and into the cylinder through the intake port. The reeds act as a 1 way valve. When the piston goes up it sucks in more gas and oil into the crank case.

Thats also why 2strokes have such big pipes, they create back pressure to keep unburned gas out of the exhaust.

No engine oil to change in a 2 stroke, the oil is either pre mixed into gas or oil injected

For the gear oil you want to run Redline superlight shockproof gear oil, it's the best stuff you can get. Keeps the clutch healthy, doesn't fling off the tranny gears, and takes three times as long to break down vs. regular gear oil so you change it less often. I know NAPA is a distributor for Redline products so if they don't have it in stock get them to order it for you.

Way overkill IMHO.

Unless you're abusing the clutch (slipping it a lot at higher RPM), you should be able to go a lot longer than that if you use a good quality synthetic bike transmission specific oil (OEM, Amsoil, Redline, etc..). Use some common sense and you'll be fine.

Regardless of what bike you buy, invest in a cheap hour meter to keep track of the ACTUAL running hours you're putting on the bike and base your maintenance schedule on that, not on the number of rides, tanks of gas, etc...

My old bike spent most its life in the skeg so the clutch got abused. good oil and change it often was my thoughts.
