Do you know of someone who devotes countless hours to promoting the sport or someone who has an amazing success story? Or a person who is taking their passion for the sport to a new level. It could be a snowmobile club member or someone at your local dealership. If you know of an outstanding sledder in Western Canada who has a great story to tell, please refer them to me or pass on their contact information - they may appear in SnoRiders magazine! It's time to get these people recognized!

Doug (ferniesnow) Curtis (Varda) Roy Maxwell, Trish (Momma), Tammy (Taminator) and countless others who live and breath snowmobiling but lets not forget RKnight (Ron Willert)

I would argue that the time, effort and investment Ron has put into snowandmud.com which has allowed us to gather and bond has had an unmatched impact on sledding in Western canada.

On a more local level we have a couple guys in our club (AB Beach Snowmobile Club) who have invested countless hours over decades to grow the sport, as I'm sure all other clubs have similar members.

as Bogger has already stated there are several we could appoint to be recognized, and I agree with much of his list. I would say Ron should for sure get a nod as he has invested a tonne of his own time, money, and hair into this website which is why we can have such gatherings as Mountain Mania, and the Summer Jamboree and have them be as successful as they are!

Thanks Ian, for the kind words. This makes it all worth it.

I would have to say LongHairFreak. I don't know of anyone else in this sport that knows so much about sledding all while not sledding. He not only knows FACTS about everything old, but also everything new and even some of the far distant future. All while being a pleasant reasonable guy.

So many just on this forum alone with people like Fernie Snow, Momma, Trish, Ron, Depsnolvr, etc. A couple more come to mind like Ministikman and Sledderglen who as well as riding in the mountains also ride locally and have busted their butts for years for Tri-County and Fort Saskatchewan Snow Angels. Ministikman raising funds for and operating the groomer in Ministik and organizing work parties. Sledderglen butting heads with Strathcona County for years (not a lot of fun) to link trails east of Edmonton. Rudy Haak also on this forum working as a volunteer forever with Tri-County. Also on this forum, although not as involved as in the past, Arnold Weid in Valemount who was there at the start of organized snowmobiling in Valemount, helping to build cabins, volunteering on VARDA board as well as being on the board of the provincial snowmobile associations. I am sure there are so many others on this forum who are dedicated volunteers for their local riding associations throughout Western Canada and the above are just a few that come to my mind.

thanks for the votes but i dont really do anything LOL. much more deserving folks out there. mostly named in the post above.

my first vote would go to ron because he has a serious dedication to snowmobiling to be able to keep this place around and thriving. then the guy gets on a sled and he turns into a little kid its rather fun to watch LOL. i think this site has built more friendships and brought more information to the table than any other resource out there. for that i vote ron.

my first/second vote would be curtis from varda. ive seen some of his work behind the scenes. i always laugh when he gets the comments about "wow must be nice to have a job where you get to ride snowmobiles" let me tell you that it is possibly the only few hours of stress releif for the whole week. he works hard everyday fighting for our areas dealing with the ever so painfull government on a daily basis and keeps calm no matter how disheartening or annoying it gets. not to mention he has transformed the valemount area into what it is today. and after that just like ron. turns into a little kid when he gets on a sled LOL.

Lots of great peeps named for sure. My vote is a semi local yokel down here named Ferniesnow. Countless hours sitting on that Fernie groomer in the middle of the night and spearheading the new Fernie cabin project and spending his summer day after day making the drive from Elkford to hammer nails and saw wood. Cheers to all the volunteers!

Thanks for all the accolades guys! I don't know about the "sledder who should be honoured" thing. I am just quietly giving back for all the enjoyment I have had following in the footsteps of so many.

The sledding community is such a great group of wonderful people and I get most of my thanks throughout the season at the shows, on the trail, and on a few forums. It is an honour to be mentioned with the likes of the Maxwells, Curtis, and of course Ron.
