I hate when I see someone talking or worse... TEXTING on their phones, and they're all over the place and driving like complete MORONS... I always think "where is a cop when you need one..." My thoughts are that they have better things to do like chasing a robber, or arresting a bad guy for murder, etc, or [standing in line for donuts] protecting the innocent. Why waste the time on a law that half of the people out there aren't going to abide by anyhow, and is probably the last thing a cop wants to worry about.
I'm guilty of talking on my phone while driving the odd occasion or when something is super urgent, but I make sure my focus on the road is my number one priority, and I never take my eyes off the road, and usually at a turn or when I'm coming to a stop or need both hands I'll drop my phone in my lap. The way I see it, talking to someone on the phone is no different than having a passenger in the car with you. If you aren't completely retarded when you drive and talk on the phone... I don't care either way.
I agree with the law for texting and driving though. I hate that, and I think that if you need to take your eyes off the road for more than a second to type out a message or read something that generally could wait... Then pull over, do what you gotta do and carry on or even just make the quick phone call because calling is much faster than typing out a text while driving. jmo

i will not argue that texting while driving isnt great, BUT the law is doing more harm than good, those people who used to hold their phones up by the wheel texting while driving had half a chance of seeing something in their periferal. now those people are holding the phone down low so as not to be seen and looking down at their lap instead of in the direction of the windshield, and as for tlaking on the phone thats just dumb.......hold the phone to your ear doesnt distract you, the moron on the other end of the call does......by they're logic it should be against the law to hold your hand to your ear while driving.

That's all we need, giving a cop a discretionary $800 ticket to dole out at their leisure.

I'm not knocking all cops because there's a lot of damn good ones out there, but it seems as of late, common sense hasn't been a big prerequisite coming out of the depot.

A good chance calling deployment to get a destination hospital. Happens often that deployment calls and changes your destination.
