A few years back I was loading the bike in a cut block, riding it up the ramp. Just as my rear tire hit the bottom of the ramp I came to a jarring complete stop. I let myself tip sideways a bit then jumped off the bike to the tipping side.
A stick had got kicked up into my chain and it stopped me cold. Lucky I was at the bottom and not the top
Sketched me out loading on the deck for a bit but got over it.
I tie down from the bars to the hooks at the front of the deck, and usually add a strap or bungee wrapped right where the front tire meets the headache rack. Piece of mind that the tire won’t twist to the side and dump the bike. Strap at the back too
Or I use the hitch mount bike carrier
