Yup,.. use it to track wayoints and post for my wife and friends to see where I go in the mountains. Also nice to be able to text when there is no cell service and I can let others know how I am doing. It's also nice to be able to suspend service and pay only $4 month for when I am not using it during the off season.

This probably doesn't help much but I don't feel like typing.

The InReach has been a blessing. So much better than the SPOT. Two way communication and you can type on your phone. Been using one for quite a few years now. I don't track. I basically use the 3 pre-typed messages; 1. I am starting my trip. 3. I am back at the truck now. 2. Will be delayed but we are okay ( use this one if someone has mechanical difficulties, gas has been an issue, someone hurt but not a serious problem, someone lost and we spent a lot of time finding them, etc..). All my contacts know what the second message means. If I need help (we call buddies for help in most instances), I will act accordingly.

You ever have issues with satellite coverage/reception?

Not really,.. sometimes it takes a little longer to send when snowing is hard and you are down low surrounded by trees, but eventually messages go through. I was on the fence about getting one awhile back,.. and now I advise others they are a valid tool.

We have one, so do my parents. Far more capable that a Spot device, and more reliable as it runs on the Iridium Satellite network instead of the globalstar network that Spot runs on.

The best device out there that I haven't had to use. Tested it buy texting home and letting family track my location several times. Never actually had to use the SOS feature. I should take it with me more often to places where cell service is sketchy. Particularly while traveling the highways in BC. You never know when you come across an accident and there is no cell service. If your in the backwoods I highly recommend you get one and learn to use it.

They're great. I don't track but like to be able to communicate basically the same as Ferniesnow. I just let the wife know that everything is ok or that we will be late so she doesn't worry. Well worth the cost to have emergency communication. From a SAR perspective we love having coordinates to start looking from if we are dispatched for a rescue. It allows us to make the best decisions for rescue early on so we can get a helicopter coming if needed before we spend hours searching first.

Great device. I don't care for the GPS tracking functionality since I have a dedicated GPS that does a way better job, but it is a kinda neat tool for letting others know where you are via the tracking feature.

I don't know if the newer Garmin (they bought out Delorem) InReach devices are any better or if it is just a fact of life with satellite communications, but sometimes the messages take a while to send. I usually find myself walking around with it for a bit before it actually sends.

While I originally bought it for safety reasons, I found it to be an invaluable tool for communicating our location when we're out random camping and don't all arrive together.

I actually used my while on vacation in Honduras. Cell rates are retarded. Long distance is expensive. Already have the In-Reach may as well use it. Work perfectly

From what I have learnt they were the same, had same functions and ran on same satellites (iridium). As stated Delorem was bought out by Garmin and they have stoped making the Delorem branded ones.
