Deck decisions doo...??

So looking for feed back on composite decks . Do we have any "connections " on here.... What's better PVC or composite ?? What brands and where are the best places to buy around Edmonton ?

Please only helpful advice , no Harper bashing, Canam bragging, JT art class's,
rubber chicken stew and no Muslim fully covered decks......

If you know f:;kall about decks , feel free to bash mulscare anyways....

Rona sells the cheapest composite by far. No idea how it holds up cause its new.Its called elegance and looks really good installed.

Just finished up a deck with Armadillo composite and Pro Built aluminum railing. It was one of them projects that really "snowballed". I started out only hoping to replace the deck and railing but ended up rebuilding the entire deck including the shed underneath. It was really easy to work with and should last a lifetime. The shed underneath is sided to match the house and waterproofed. I'm not a carpenter so I buddy helped me out in his spare time so it took a bit longer than expected. See the product links below.

Timber tech is a great product. Did my 550' deck with it. Sandy birch was the colour. Great product to work with to. Built my deck myself. Although I'm also a hardwood installer, seemed natural to me. Turned out awesome, feels great barefoot to! Not cheap, but we'll worth it.

i should elaborate shouldn't have said stay away from trex period ,but, it is a "wood" product technically so it does still SHRINK and move with the changing seasons eventually loosing the clips (which are hard to get at afterwards and if not using the proper bit tends to scratch and score the decking)when homeowners try to solve the problem themselves. As long as your aware of it its alright but many people think its a maintenance free product when in reality nothing is maintenance free

It does scratch. I got mine a bit cheaper with my contractor card. Which you don't have to be a contractor to get, hint hint.

did you use the elegance clips as well ? Can it be screwed down with composite screws too ?

I used trex clips cause its all I could find. Worked ok. I would'nt suggest screwing it anymore than you have to. if you do screw it pre drill and use a countersink bit or they can split.

Aren't there special two headed screws for composite decking?

Trex with trim head screws in a year or so you don't even see the screws holes. I don't care for the clips, to big of a gap. I have lots of trex, never had a problem.
I would think all composite is going to expand contract with seasons

I used a product called Elkwood on my deck. It contracted for about 2 years after I installed it ( probably why they're not in business anymore). I used stainless screws on the facia boards, as the board does move quite a bit with the heat and cold. The heads of the regular screws would snap off, the stainless flex. You will love the composite decking.

nothing wrong with trex, it got a bad name because the older stuff didnt last. None of it is a lifetime product.
I dont like the clips either. I wish they would make an interlocking system so it made a water tight seal for dry storage under your deck.

Moistureshield is nice too.

Bought the elegance ,since it does not offer a square face board I am cutting the lips of one side and making a square edge face perimeter plank....
it cut great and looks factory square now. Also screwing it down with composite screws...they work well on it if spaced right it appears!
