Crushed asphalt

Anyone use this for a driveway? My crushed gravel cap is now gone and looking for alternatives

Works great, my parents use this on 1/2 of there property and for my first year and a half I used on mine. Sometimes you can get some good stuff that binds together from travelling on it. If you need someone that can deliver and spread let me know. Pm me

I you can get grindings when they are just removing the top of the asphalt work the best for binding. If its pulled up with a hoe and crushed later you can end up with more roadbase than asphalt in the mix.

You can’t just spread it and leave it . IMO
If you spread and put a pad foot packer on it makes a huge difference. Nice to do on a good hot day helps also .

I could be wrong, but I think crushed asphalt is the stuff that is very slippery to walk on compared with gravel.

I have been doing my driveway with it the last couple years. Works great and has a very low dust factor which is nice. Very cost effective as well I have found, been hauling it myself as there is a facility right next to my office.

What is your base like? I just built up my driveway and used crushed recycled cement. From what I have been told is pretty much the best base to use as the rough edges help it bind. But if you have a good base already in place then crushed asphalt is a good top.

That is what my base is as well. Winter still does a number on the asphalt since it gets pushed off but pretty easy to throw some more down. Knocks the dust from the cement down a ton, that stuff gets really bad with a few years age on it.

I believe it was $13 per tonne last year and went to $10 per tonne later in the season when they had a surplus.

Fish Creek Excavating on 84th street in Calgary. That price is not delivered as I pick it up myself with a dump trailer. Very inexpensive in my opinion.
