Want to go to Crow this winter and was wondering where the closet point to Calgary is that has a small motel or cabins that you can ride from?? Is there places like this?? Is there all round riding there or just the trail system?? Do you have to worry about avalanche conditions? TIA.

if ya want to sled right from your door in cnp there is only two places to do that down there
inn on the border (curtis and verlle hagley )west on highway three the have some trails to ride from and also some good hills to climb
north of coleman there is the tecumseh guest ranch where you can hook up with the crowsnow riders trail system and get into some real nice terrain

Just a little tidbit. You are NOT allowed to ride in the CNP city limits anymore. I understand it it strickly enforced. :d

Riding from Inn on the Boarder you can access Corbin and from there everything in the Flathead drainage: West Castle to Fernie, Hwy 3 to the US boarder. It's huge and every kind of riding. I'm not sure if you can access the trail system east of the rockies.

Snow from the tecumseh guest ranch to the trailhead for the north trail system (Allison) can be sketchy. I've met people staying there that have ridden from the ranch in the morning and not been able to get back as the snow blew away or melted (Feb). I've just trail ridden with my family north of hwy3 in the Allison area so cannot tell you much more.

As far as trail riding goes we enjoyed the south trail system more than the north (relative to Hwy 3).

The drive from any of the local hotels to the trail heads is very short. Sounds like you might be trying to avoid that load up at the end of the day but it's tough to do other than Inn on the Boarder. We camped last year at Allison which was sweet!

Good Luck,

Shawn

Defiantely Stay at Inn On The Border. Curtis and Verlee were awesome, and prices were decent too. Tonnes of riding outback and groomed trails. We had a blast there....
