Pull the primary off a check runout. Often time by about 4000km but lots of guys have gone further.

Yes my experience is 4000km and your running on borrowed time. The runout is an option but wont tell you amount of grease left in the outers. That runout will change quickly without you knowing, could be from morning to afternoon

really 4000? i would say 6000 min 8000 max. thats what im at on my 2010 and its within spec and no signs of failing right away. i will replace it because i feel that i am on borrowed time NOW after 8000. but 4000 is really premature unless you dont take care of your stuff. piston kits ive had great luck with MCB dual rings. price is right too and comes with all gaskets

I would agree they are good for over 6000miles at least. To check run out you need to remove the primary clutch and both spark plugs so the engine rolls over easy . Then mount a dial indicator to the engine case and put the indicator on the end of the crank stub. Roll the engine over and see how much the gauge moves. I can't remember the runout specs for the 800r off the top of my head though sorry

Anything under .004" is in spec, runout should be checked with plugs in to ensure you are getting an accurate reading of the crank bottoming in the bearings and you will need the assistance of compression to do this and as far as grease goes the pto bearing can be greased by removing the seal greasing and assembling with a new seal. Out of shear curiosity have any of you guys used the cv tech cranks or long blocks for replacement components on the 800r's???

Deano I got a cv tech crank on the big bore. 3000km on it now. Installed it was 0.0012 and right now it's at 0.0017. Benard at cv tech is great to deal with. As a side note they do cylinder repair, sent in the big bore ones as well. there were cracks around the rave area/exhaust port... Fixed and still good.

Using cvtech for over 10 years. Always had good luck with their cranks and cylinder replating.

I would hate to open up my seal and see rust! When I greased my 09 it was good but started to get dark.

I would do a top end rebuild at 4000km then when you hit 8000km do a top end rebuild again and replace crank with a reman crank from skidoo, then repeat
