A few questions Guys. Runout or Deflection is it the same thing? Do the cranks all come from the factory with the same runout and something we do causes it to change. I have seen some with very little and some with a lot (004).All these sleds ran very well. Is it not as bad as some make it out to be or should a guy be fixing anything over 002. What is done to repair them or just not worth it. Thanks for the opinions.

I understand it is always best to repair it but what causes it to go over .002 . It must be still to early in the season for people to be interested in this stuff. Probably will bring it up again in a couple of months. Thanks tex

I would bet that more than half that come straight out of the factory are out by 3 thou. Hearing lots of stories of people getting shortblocks that are out that much. Mine is around 3 thou, I am going to look closer, and perhaps redo the whole deal, we see.

Buddy of mine had his at 9 thou, the guy who owned it blew belts left right and center. He said "I just kept taking it in until they solved the belt blowing issue. In my opinion, when a motor is under full load and then BAM!! it isn't, it can't be good for the crank. The bearings were all purple and it was ready to grenade.

What do the dealers say when you are at the counter and say to them oh by the way I want to see what the run out is? Do they tell you to fly a kite or do they do it for you? They never like to let you go back in their shops and do anything. I would imagine it sometimes could be hard to get a straight answer.

i bought a reman motor from h2o motors in sicamous and i asked to check the runout and he said no problem it was good and it sure ran good all year no problems what so ever in my opinion that guy dale at h2o knows his stuff he also set up my clutches and i got over 2000km on my belt and i honestly dont believe there is a rev out there that will outclimb mine

It seems blowing a belt is one of the causes of the crank run out getting bad .Better not do that Run It TILL SHE BLOWS before a guy gets the new belt put on it anymore. Is there anyone else with some pointers on this subject. Thanks

It's not the belt the causes runout. Some of it is the pto bolt on the pre 10 800r are threaded 3/4 of a inch farther into the crank. Goes past where the pto stops on the taper of the shaft. The newer ones are 1/4 to 1/2 inch out side of where the pto stops so its solid more so.

I disagree. If you blow belts on a constant basis, it's super hard on a crank. Going from full load to nothing creates stress. A friend bought an XP and the previous owner said it blew about 6 belts. Runout was at 9 thou.

Thanks for the info Guys. Now if a person has a runout of lets say 004 and decides to fix don't you end up in the end spending the same amount as you would on a new shortblock. You just have to ask them to check the runout on it. What do you think ?
