90 mins out, don't know if it was snowing, but If I had gone out without gear, and got stuck, the first thing I'd do is follow my tracks back to the truck!!! Common sense, maybe there was more involved, like booze, drugs, etc.... Takes all kinds and the media only tells you what they want you to know!

I think Ferniesnow's Signature says it all.

the blessing is that we can learn from other people's bad judgement and not have to recreate it in our own lives.

Pair rescued from Crowsnest Pass backcountry
By DAVE DORMER, CALGARY SUN

.Cold, wet and without emergency equipment, two snowmobilers had to be rescued after they got stuck while snowmobiling near the Crowsnest Pass.

The pair — a man and a woman from Calgary with limited backcountry experience — left the Atlas staging area northwest of the Crowsnest Pass about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, expecting to be gone for about 90 minutes.

It said they left at 6:30 pm

oh my gosh for sure.

It's scary being turned around even during the light of day. I was turned around during a weird freak blizzard fog storm once. Freaky, and took about an hour and a half to find our way back. I think it would be even worse at night. I have told everyone I know about that story... Learn from what I did wrong.
I guess that's why these threads can be helpful. Not just a bash fest, but constructively, what can be done differently. Whether the reporter named all the facts or not there is something to be learned when things go wrong.
