hmm, very interesting. I didn't think it added that much weight. Well there is a ton of powder coating done on my sled. I didn,t do it but the prevoius owner did. The tunnel, belt cover, sled frame, and the chain case cover. But it sure looks good!

i'm not sure what the actual weights are that get added to a sled but people sure spend alot of money to take weight off of there sled.. So dont really understand why you'd pay to add weight to your sled when it dont change performance.. i understand the looks thing but myself unless it was a steel part or a col;our that you couldn't get in anadized i'd go anadized for sure.. I've seen sleds that came into the shop that the running boards and stuff were all worn and chipped and stuff that had been powdercoated, and then you look at kens '06 rev and the anadizing isn't changed really at all.. This is mainly because when you anadize an aluminum part it actually hardens the outer layer of the aluminum.. This is just my opinion.

Often times its a case of being able to see the forest through the trees though as well. Adding a couple pounds in powder coat can reduce the amount of heavy wet snow that you are packing around by 15 lbs. Not for the rails, but I have my tunnel and bulkhead powder coated and I don't have any snow build up, it just doesn't stick while all my buddies are kicking snow off their running boards etc. The coated bulkhead is nice due to the fact that it is really easy clean up, everything just wipes off the plastic coating (gas/oil/belt dust/ etc). That being said, the powder coating is very slippery when it gets moisture on it, without traction strips, its hard to get a good foothold!! :)

Anodizing adds a really nice bling factor and does a good job of protecting parts, no it does not add any weight which is a good thing. It basically comes down to personal preference and what you can afford. Anodizing is more expensive I believe.

Gc custom metal fabrication(1211 - 78 avenue- just off sherwood park freeway - 780-440-1845) did my 151" rails and they turned out great... $60.00 for both rails.... I scrubbed and cleaned 'em before i took them in..... Look friggin' awesome.

I got GC's name from a previous post you put out Ric so I dropped off 4 springs to be done at GC the other day. $14 a spring is a good deal in my opinion and they will be done in 2 days. Thanks for the name eh Ric.:d I used another vendor in the West end a few years ago, was not impressed as it was expensive and took 3 weeks to get my parts back.

Also with Anodizing, you have to pop all the rivets. I think they get eaten away in the process. Depends on what you want done, can add a whole lot of labor.

Looking to get an idea of cost to powder coat or anodize some rails? Also will anodizing chip at all?
Hi Haggis,

I am picking up my stuff tuesday I hope and it will be anadized, anadizing is a die and powder coating is like a paint and it is heavier also. Anadizing is more expensive and does not chip, it will scratch but that is it. Anadizing is only done on alluminum, and longer proccess. You can get a shine with anadizing also you just need to get the items polished first. If you need more info buzz me...
I like anodizing better but that is just me....

anderson anodizing in st.albert did my rails. rails and a couple small peices cost 100 bucks. i like the look of it but i shouldve cleaned them up better. but oh well it was my first time. i had my cast alum spindles powder coated cuz they said u cant anodize them. turned out good. holding up great so far. just tricky to reinstall cuz the powder coat is thicker than paint. i think anodizing looks the best. its a diff kinda look. its still looks alum just dyed. neat.
