im not an expert on this but anodizing is a thinner coat and powder coating is a thicker coat so i would pick anodizing over power coating, but thats just me

i thoguht it was a differant process. i beleive anodizing is cheaper. it cost almost 200 to do my rails at supreme plating because the aluinum is more expensive to coat than steel because it is a differant process aswel since the powderciating is magnetic. but anodizing doesnt seem to hav the nice shine that powdercoating. but maybe thats just me haha

I have my trailing arms, rear suspension, rails, buddies foot rest from an xp and a few small misc. pieces getting coated and it should cost around 200. Have had plenty of aluminum parts coated in the past with no problems, I prefer flat finishes in powder (personnel preference).

Sounds cheap - where are you getting done???? Also are you taking in sand blasted parts or is that for old parts being redone????

All the small parts that I could fit in my glass cabinet at work it preped, the trail arms and rear arms needed chem stripping first then blasting and the rails needed blasting, My guy gives me really good deals that's why I keep going back to him, Have had two sportbikes done buy him, getting my triumph resto done buy him and my car wheels this winter and prolly some truck parts soon.

Top Gun in Edmonton can do it for you.

I use JIT Coatings in Calgary here, Derek is a great guy to deal with, fair prices and fast service. He has coated a lot of stuff for me and my buds.

Edit: Price for my whole chassis was under $300. Pricing usually depends on how fast you want it, what colour and texture. If you are looking for regular old flat black and can leave it with the coater for a week or so, they will burn it with another batch when they some other black stuff as well. If they have to fire the oven for your stuff alone and coat it separately cuz you wanted "mystic magenta" or some other non-standard colour or a custom colour or textured, expect it to cost more. How busy they are also matters.

got my rails powerdercoated for 20 bucks including an acid bath but the people that did it just do it commercially so its cheaper...aside from cost....powdercoat doesnt add that much weight and the snow doesnt seem to stick to it as much...takes a lot to chip it too. I've thought about doing my own anodizing smaller parts...the process is relatively easy and a good set up costs around 200-300 to start up. from what ive read about anodizing it also makes the part stronger through the electrolysis part of the operation. just my .02

does anybody know how much weight powder coating adds ????
like the rails??

I think i recall 4-5 lbs. on a tunnel. rails would be very minimal. The Mountain Magic or Specialty guys would know i'm sure.

i'm not sure what the actual weights are that get added to a sled but people sure spend alot of money to take weight off of there sled.. So dont really understand why you'd pay to add weight to your sled when it dont change performance.. i understand the looks thing but myself unless it was a steel part or a col;our that you couldn't get in anadized i'd go anadized for sure.. I've seen sleds that came into the shop that the running boards and stuff were all worn and chipped and stuff that had been powdercoated, and then you look at kens '06 rev and the anadizing isn't changed really at all.. This is mainly because when you anadize an aluminum part it actually hardens the outer layer of the aluminum.. This is just my opinion.
