Tikka is a beautiful rifle, and made by sako, just a little less expensive thats all. Depending on what you want to spend I bought a savage package for my boy and it works great. Smooth bolt action, great grouping at 200 yards. But if you can spend the little extra, definately look at the Tikka.

There is still one savage out there I want to buy. Just haven't seen one in any stores yet to feel up. But everything feels loose and clunky compared to the tikka. Well except for a Sako of course. I have always like the trg and maybe one day I will pick one up. But until I either get some land or something happens with the gun ranges around here they are on the back burner. Not worth driving over an hour each way to go shoot.

Are savages any good? I've always been told they are complete and utter garbage. Never fired one but looked at one and it felt cheap.

I've got close to 30 rifles, and my last 2 I bought were savages, 223 & 243. bought the 243 for my boy when deer hunting and the 223 for coyote hunting. Nothing fancy about them, black syn. on black barrel. Been very happy with them, good grouping and I found the bolt action better then many.

What's your longest shot with the .243? Is it better for coyotes than the .223 ?
Reason I ask is that I am looking at coyotes around 4-500 yards and its a fairly long range for my .223

That's a long reach for a 243 as well :) go with a 22-250 for that long IMO

243 is a decent gun though son got his deer last year 270yrds 1 shot little small though for my liking still have to track them with the 7 mm it takes the whole tracking problem out of the equation :)

One of the better shooting rifles out of the box now. Even the cheap, cheap Stevens are a good shooting rifle now.

Not into the real long shots, probably around the 250 yard range. I was debating between the 22-250 and 223. went with the 223 because ammo is super cheap and rifle doesn't get nearly as hot as the 22-250. I think I paid 20.00 buckes for 100 rounds for the 223 of the cheap ammo. I'm not sure what the range would be on the 243, I'm guessing about 400 would be the max you would reach out to comfortably. I bought the 243 mostly for deer hunting but at the same time it's light enough for coyotes. It seems to be a fairly popular caliber used on many of the hunting videos.

I have 2 out if the box set up savages and love both for the money I spent 7 mm and a 243. You feel the 7 a little more than other brands in the same caliber but its a magnum on a synthetic stock
But it will put three holes in a quarter at 200yrds with hand loads
Out of the box bang for the money savage is great IMO
