The Frozen Pirate team is now booking for the 2017/2018 season for Avalanche Skills Training 1 & 2 and Companion Rescue courses along with backcountry guiding.

We specialize in small group private courses although we will try to accommodate almost any group size, idea or schedule that will get you out here for some training or mountain fun.

Our entry level AST1 course is typically held in two evening class sessions followed by a full field day. This allows you to get out to the mountains for some great training and have some personal on mountain time as well.

Many options are available. What really matters is that you and your group are on the same page with avalanche safety, group communication, companion rescue and mountain travel.

For more info, please check out frozenpirate.com and contact us with any questions. Space fills up quickly so book now to secure your spot.

Nice to see people interested in AST 2. I felt it was a great addition to my knowledge I received in AST 1
Always have wanted to take it but I find it is really tough to get four AST 1's together to take the AST 2.

If there was an open course that would be mint.

Go anyway. The info you learn is valuable. Once you have taken it maybe your group will follow.

I am trying to. Most Avi course places want you to bring a min group of 4 :/

I get ya now. The course I took wasn't like that. I went with one other and they put everybody into two groups. I think there were 8 or so in each group. I liked that because in a real world senerio you may be working with people you don't know.

Sorry for the delay in replies folks. Was away for a bit.

We currently have openings for an AST2 from Jan 11-14 and if there are a few that cant make this date, we can build another one that works for you and we will work towards filling it with the minimum.

Dont be shy, send us an email and we will do whatever we can to get you trained up!

Thanks for the interest

We've got a handful of open spots in our Fernie, BC Feb 12-15, 2018 AST2 Course if you are still looking. Give us a shout for more info. Lots of great providers out there to choose from now and tons of sledders looking for AST2 courses so I'm sure you won't have trouble finding or filing a course up with whomever you choose to go with!
