Class 6 road test

Anyone have info on getting a class 6 road test or the best way to go about it or is it still a chit show at the registries? Road all last yr with no license because the waiting list to get an appointment was retarded so I figure I should try and be legit for this yr plus I just bought a new road glide special

Went through this last year. Book it online at the registry clsest to you, or the one with the earliest opening.

Any buds you like. The examiner talks you through the road test through your phone. Your phone is on mute, so they cant hear you cuss and bitch etc...
They give you clear directions well in advance of any turns or stops. Its pretty easy, just pay attention to your basic road skills. The only motorcycle specific thing is the hill start. And make sure your head is on a swivel, constantly checking your blind spots and mirrors.

The hill start eh well I will have to YouTube that and lane positioning I heard is important too

A hundred years ago when I got mine it was one honk for right, two honks for left. If we get separated meet me back here. I lost him in the first block,went back to registries and got my license.

when I did mine, they just told you where to go and followed in the car. if you forgot, you failed lol.

to the OP...watch out for playground signs/zones. 30km/hr from 8:30am until one hour after sunset. do lots of shoulder checks, the more the better. pretend there are no mirrors on your bike.

I don't think the skills test is a requirement in Alberta anymore, used to have to slow speed weave through cones, and do an emergency stop test. but they may ask questions like "point out your brake fluid reservoir" etc.

if you haven't yet, take a skills course. probably the best thing you can do.

Ya I was actually thinking about that too my buddy got his license thru the college then did his road test all in the same program but they kyboshed that now apparently here in gp anyways...

LOL, When I got mine it was do some fiqure 8 around some cones and that was it.

I got mine last year. Booked in April got my license end of August. No skills test, just talks to you over the cell phone.

I got mine 30 years ago. I switched my licence to an unnamed state. The lady couldn’t understand the different classes and voile! She accidentally gave me a Motorcycle licence endorsement. When I moved back, transferred my license back to Canada and I am an official class 6 holder!

I got mine years ago, the “tester” drive in a car behind me, I rode my bike, I passed the test. She had no way to talk to me, she just told me where to go before hand.

Is that new? I swear I seen them last summer doing motorcycle courses. I got my motorcycle license ~15 years ago through one of those courses in Edmonton. If you have to do the skills course as part of the test I’d definitely recommend taking a program- they usually have 125-250cc bikes that they provide that are a whole lot easier to weave in between cones, do a figure 8 and ride at walking speed than your road glide special will be.

Back in the day I did mine through NAIT? (in their parking lot anyways) and got my license at the end of the weekend after you pass some low speed tests etc.
Courses are still available through the Alberta Safety Council......now you just don't get your license at the end.......but perhaps still worth doing for the savings on your insurance though!?

Few things hill start you cannot roll back you have to stop put it in neutral left foot down hands up right foot on rear break. Then reverse it put it in gear and not roll back. You can ride the clutch all you want but if you stall it not good. All the stupid road rules that you never follow anymore full stop before stop line then pull forward, if your turning right onto residential street with no line you actually have to signal left into your lane. Be careful of stale green lights run a red fail. Think I did mine a dozen years ago but things are not that different. Some kind of head set to tell you directions. As previously stated go to registry get written done first after road test it’s official then.

They removed the skills coarse sometime in 2013. I took my road test in 2013.

I did mine in 17. Did a hill start, he didn't care how I did it just that the bike didn't roll it stall. You have to "claim" your lane. If I remember correctly you drive in the left half of a right lane, right half of a left lane. You have to shoulder check even if you are switching from one half to the other of the lane you are in. For example if you are in right lane, left half to turn right you would near the intersection, shoulder check to get into right half to turn right at the intersection.
