I smoke and have done for many years now i know its not good for you at all and know it kills alot of people. My mum just had he final check up last week as she had cancer she got the all clear. Anyway i just dont like the the way that on all these boxes they have pictures of lungs and things i know what they are doing. And inside they are bits of card to tell you to get help to stop i dont want to stop. My point is that you dont have a can of beer with a picture of a bad liver on. You dont get a McDonald's with a picture of an obese person on saying this could kill you so why just cigarettes?

I am for real and i thought about it what wrong with it? Its ok to be an alcholic and drink all day with no warning on the the can and kill your liver But smokers have to have a stupid card telling me to stop.

WAAAAY more smokers than drinkers. WAY MORE.
The majority of smokers smoke all day, while only a small amount consume alcohol all day. For most, smoking is highly addictive. It's easy for kids to hide a pack of smokes.

Your blood pressure jumps every time you take a drag,

approx. 1 in 5 deaths is related to smoking. that is a HUGE burden on healthcare compared to drinking and eating bad food.

As for mcdonalds, they, by law have to disclose nutritional values of their products and have them available to the consumer.

Many of things kill people these day, from fast food, to drugs, to beer, bad luck, etc.....

Simple thing is, its up to us to correct it all. perhaps not cold turkey, but baby steps.....

I hear you John, Big Mac's are killing people just like tobacco, perhaps not as much but.....question is why is either allowed to be purchased???

its up to us as parents (moms and dads) to teach our kids that health matters.....no more pop, beer, chips, smokes, etc.....but her I am preaching to the choir as I am drinking rum as I write this post. Were not perfect yet!!!!

It wont happen over night, but It will happen, when I lived at home over ten years ago, my parents allowed me to drink pop, eat chips, candy, 2% milk, white bread, etc....now a days, Fridays a few beers maybe some rum, but that's all....

takes time, wont happen over night!!!

As a smoker myself, and losing both my parents, both of them heavy heavy smokers. But their deaths were not related to smoking. I can understand the point that John is trying to make.

I can buy a 12 pack of beer cheaper( if you like cheap beer ) than a pack of smokes. 2 chocolate bars, cheaper than 2 apples or a loaf of bread.

Obesity across North America is a huge drain on the health care system, not saying that smoking isn't. Because it certianly is! Cocaine is highly adddictive (illegal) but waaay easier to quit than smokes, yet smokes are still allowed to be sold, depicting pictures of what might happen if you smoke.

But box's of beer don't show the fatality rate or the pics of drinking and driving. How many ppl are killed a week, due to "alcohol was a factor"

I have taken a 1 week course at the U of A, to learn about Type 1 Diabetes, So I can also relate to what 09xp850le is saying. Since that course 6 yrs ago I haven't ate at KFC, smells great as I drive by  but knowing what's in it. Not a Chance!!!

IMHO.... cigarette packs shouldn't be the only product depicting pics, of what could happen to you, if you start or keep using them.

Just my :twocents:

The vast majority of kids could have a beer or two without without any deleterious effect or fear of getting addicted, same with fast food, a meal at Mcdonalds once a month isn't going to put anyone in the hospital. Not so much with smoking it's just so addicting, there aren't too many people that go and have a cigarette once or twice a week. I think that the pictures are there for the kids. If it deters some from starting then it's probably worth it to have them there. Get a cigarette case if you don't like looking at the pictures.Cigarette Cases - Personalized Metal & Leather Cases - Pack Holders

Sounds like a quote from heath Canada.

Yea they TRY to discourage people from smoking(i do), but at the same time they make billions every year from tobacco taxes:rolleyes:

More peeps die from auto accidents every day than people die from smoking daily.

Because those are the same thing  No one has to smoke, it's just a filthy habit. I can't believe anyone smoking is against those, would you really want your kids to smoke? Alcohol and food that's bad for you don't kill people, it's people being stupid and having dumb amounts. In moderation they don't hurt you. One smoke a year will still hurt you.

.....and the government spends nothing to promote traffic safety. What do you suggest? Stop trying to discourage people from not smoking? Or not taxing tobacco products and making up the shortfall somewhere else? :confused:Part of the deterrent is the price...

You dont get a McDonald's with a picture of an obese person on saying this could kill you

That's because the obese person is sitting beside you in McDonald's. If their sweaty weezing while they hammer down a Big Mac isn't enough of a deterant then I don't know what is.
