Chinese ATV's - Any Good?

So I got a little sticker shock while looking at new ATV's the other day and got curious about Chinese ATV's as a result.

I'm wondering if anyone has bought one a chinese made ATV and can weigh in on if they're any good or not?
Reliability?
Parts & Support?
Dealerships in the Calgary area?
etc.

you get what you pay for. seems to be a new brand name every week, me, i'd stay away, it's your money and you may have fun selling the unit as the shine wears off. definitely check wear you will get parts in the future.

I believe some are good my dad bought yanhsee{ i think the spelling correct}
and it been great they are built in the same factory as yamaha big bear to look at its big bear just a different name and alot cheaper and it has more option its has 2 or 4 wheel drive and its street legal horn signal light back up alarm and nice and light we are in our 4th season with it and no probems

I was looking for Brands and Models to avoid or look into based on others' first hand experience with them, not generalizations about boat anchors (unless that's what you've actually done with yours, which would be hilarious)
And are there any dealers in the Calgary area at all? I don't plan on mail ordering it if I decide to go with one

My buddy bought a Jianshee, well he has been through three of them. The 1st one dropped the frontend out 50 yards from the truck, the second did not run when the shop he bought it from picked up the 1st one! lol the POS did not even start! the third has had huge carb problems. They finally got it running but it sure likes the gas! It uses more fuel than the Hemi the guy next door has!

Basically if you buy one find a guy with a Honda and a tow rope to pull you home!

If the price of new machines scares you like it did me, there are alot of really good used ones out there! My advice is take your time and find a good one. Look at solid brand names ie Honda Yamaha etc. You can pick up a really good used quad for $5000 or under!

we ride with freinds who ride different chinese machinesand from what i have noticed through helping them fix them is that the biggest problem with these machines is the quality of steel that is used. for the most part i think the design is there.we have seen carbs not slidedue to being worn un even and getting wedged. rear end bolts strip on the trail. pretty much remove and replace all bolts before getting started. I to would definately recomend a good used machine if you do not want to dish out the cash

i bought one for my son 2 years ago and haven't had any problems with it, but he doesn't drive into the muskeg like i would w/ my machines, i think if your going to use for just getting around it probably would be fine, but if your gonna ride it hard, i'd spend the money and probably save yourself some grief !

I just purchased 2 Giovanni "Beasts" 125cc, for an affordable $1200 for both. Just for the kids and wife to play on....they are EXTREMELY gutless, very cute looking lil quads but most def not for any sort of experienced style of rider what so ever....

...I also had a lil pitster bike for my older boy for a couple yrs and he put lots of hrs on it riding round the pits between his motos at the races and never had an ounce of trouble at all

....BUT as mentioned above, you get what you pay for absolutely correct

My buddy bought a Panterra 700 utv. When it gets wet, hot, or for what ever other reason the piece of crap quits half the time. Looked at all the connections and have done some tuning. When you spend more time on the trail trying to get it to run than you do riding one has time to ponder "why did I buy this piece of crap!" I never get tired of telling him "I told you so" because we did alot of looking but the idea of saving 3 or 4 grand was just to appealing for him. He paid cash for it and is stuck with it because no brand name dealer in our area will take it on trade for a fair dollar.

So it's your call...is it really worth it. Will this machine stand up to the abuse and if it is and more likely be a lemon, will the dealer stand behind you.

Something that's cheap usually has the same quality of service and dependability. I have no use for these Chinese or any other brand of knock off. So that's my 2

If budget is a concern, then buy a used brand name. There's nothing more frustrating than saving up your hard earned money, then getting stuck with a machine that won't work, nobody will buy from you, and hard to get parts for.

I have 2 Gio 90cc for my 5 and 7 year old, i have them turned down that i can run faster than they can drive" most of the time" the 5 year old knows if he holds the gas it will wind up. Never a lick of problems besides tires loosing air. Leave them out at the lake all winter, disconect the battery and fire it right up after the winter. Have 2 other "asuna" 110cc was told they are based on a yamaha motor. These are wide open and i am over 6' and 200+ i ride them when i am going to visit or just feel like playing around , i can catwalk them 2 wheel them , again never gave me any problems. I bought them all used.
I will say this about the Gio's lock tight all the body parts.

Have you looked at Suzuki? I couple months ago I bought a brand new 2008 King Quad 750 with a 2500# warn winch professionally installed for $8300 (before tax and pdi). It's going to be more than a Chinese quad but I sure feel more comfortable on a brand name when I'm 10 miles in the bush.
