Here's my question. I live in Alberta but have never registered my sled because I ride in SK if I ever ride around home. So as an Alberta resident can I register my sled in BC instead of Alberta? Just simply because I would rather have a sticker then having to mount a plate on my sled.

Even if you could, you don't want to. You would have to pay them PST on the value of the sled in order to register it in BC. I don't know what the big deal is with a plate. I just fasten it to the back of my gas rack. It's visible and I don't need to drill holes in my sled.

Will be interesting if they catch more of the stolen units out there if they are checking serial number vs pink card and registration.

Based on the BC Gov document I would challenge you in saying that sleds dont need insurance to ride on Forest Service Roads. Just based on their document.
• Insurance – On public roads and highways, Basic insurance continues to be a requirementfor all motorists, including ORV owners; ORV riders who opt for incidental access tohighways will require ICBC’s Basic insurance. On Forest Service Roads, $200,000 in thirdpartyliability insurance continues to be a requirement. On all other Crown land, liabilityinsurance is voluntary but recommended.

I am not saying you are wrong, but they will have the ability to enforce it as it is written.

When they say "continue to be a requirement", they're referring to the B.C. Forest Service Road Use Regulation. ATV's require liability insurance, sleds are specifically exempted. It's always been that way. Nothing in the new legislation changes that.

Refer to paragraph 3(1) in the following link:

I knew we kept you around here for something! Thanks

Too bad they can't get all the regs in one complete document :)

For all you that question if you need a plate on the sled to haul it on a truck and think that is a way out all they need to do is park on the bottom of the hill (and i'm sure they will be) and wait for you to come along with a machine full of snow .... BUSTED......
Let me guess, your next argument will be you were on private property....... I hope you know the name of the owner that owns the property....

It's over. Don't fight it 'cause you know they will be coming to a parking lot near you.

I've never installed a sticker before. Just paid for them and traded them in with the sled. New rules kinda force them to give you fine now,,, 'cause it's new for a reason. Money.

Biggest PIA now IMO is the continuity of ownership requirements on used stuff. So many were never registered or just registered by the first owner and that name was lost along the way.
I bought a 05 M7 this weekend for my son to build. I had the receipt from the current owner and they gave me the bill of sale from the dealership they bought it from in 2013 (taxes paid). Not good enough for ICBC. Needed to find the owners back to 05 or the paperwork to 05.
With out this you need to get a notary thing or go to the courthouse to sign something to prove what you say is true or something.

But,,, like I said, they WILL be coming to a parking lot near you,,,

Thank you Catalac! I was about to say the same thing. And I might even expand on it....
The best thing I can think of in the parking lot and on check stops, will be the 'Boys in Blue' checking sleds for registration and ownership.
Will this not surface the crooks driving around with stolen sleds and trailers quicker?
There have been many threads out there raising hell about thieves and how easy it is for them to get away....
This maybe a good thing. It would take only one time to catch these guys in a Check Stop with a trailer with stolen sleds to make my day. In fact I would be very happy to see them walking up to chat about what I have in the trailer to make sure I am one of the Good Guys.
Is Catalac and I the only ones that see the benefit of these additional checks to help the cops catch the crooks?

and that is what I intended the thread to be about. What is happening in the staging areas and parking lots.

5 pages of registration/insurance is fine if it clears up problems for individual readers/posters but I really want to hear the enforcement side of the issue.

I'm hoping they enforce it and catch some thieves. I wish no ill will for those who are driving owned sleds but really, it's a choice you make to follow the rules or not and if not then you pay.
No different than me running a stop sign ($388.00 for the record). I knew the rules, failed to obey and whalaaa....ticket.
Let catch some of the people stealing sleds.

It's really the same argument as gun laws isn't it? Who says the crooks are going to try and register their machines? Hauling with an enclosed? Just deny the cops access to it as that is within their rights. Or slap on a plate or sticker that is registered to an identical legal machine. Do you really think Constable sour-cream-glazed is going to climb up on a deck and check the registration against the VIN on the tunnel?

True...true but many thieves are not that bright.

The government seems to think so. Has licensing really stopped the stealing of vehicles. It is good to have motor vehicles, including sleds and quads, registered, insured, and legal but we all know this is just another cash grab for ICBC and the government.

The cops will stop a vehicle without a plate. And it sounds like they will be stepping up the checks and friendly visits in the parking lots. Maybe they need a few pointers on what to look for when they do a check.
It will cramp my style as well as I do enjoy a drink in the trailer as we change clothes. I will make the change if this makes a difference in stopping theft and vandalism. The extra checks, plus the Bait vehicles, this should be creating a world of doubt for thieves now.
What we need is stiffer penalties for theft period. In the old days, the judge ordered the cutting off of the right hand. Some where between cutting off hands and walking away laughing with a slap on the hand there is a reasonable amount of justice to be delivered to the crooks.

I think I will be safe most of the time because I don't drink coffee so have no reason to be near Timmy's.
That being said I registered my first sled today and it wasn't as bad as expected..
