Hi all I've looked and looked for an exact answer to my question and situations but haven't been able to find it, I in apologize in advance if this has been talked about before.

i have 2013 pro rmk with electric start.., since I bought it the battery has been dead and would not even click to start the sled. Which is fine I don't need it anyway, but now I've been getting a random check engine light and battery icon. It comes and goes and hasn't affected any performance of the sled. My question is could it just be the dead battery, I might add it went from being stored inside a heated shop to a none heated shop. Or is it more likely to be short somewhere? I don't want to buy a battery if it's not the problem. Thanks in advance for any advice

The battery is only there for the electric start. The light is coming on because it is sensing an irregularity in the battery charge or status.

So it could be the dead the dead battery tripping the check engine light? I know the battery is only there for the starter I personally wouldn't have put it on but it was my old mans and he wanted it lol

You need to start from square 1

Charge battery
Load test battery
If good install back up in sled and check charging voltage.
If not replace battery and check charging

I know the battery is shot, it doesn't hold a charge, all I'm really asking is could the dead battery be tripping the check engine light, with the little battery icon flashing. If yes then I will buy a new battery if no then I won't and I'll move onto voltage regulator or other common causes. Reason I'm asking is I would like to get rid of the electric start all together so I don't want to buy a battery if I don't have to, but I have a trip coming up in a couple weeks and don't have the time to take it off before I go. I just don't want any issues while on my trip.

Put a low 12v charge on the battery no more than about 14v, start the sled and see if it goes away. The battery charger will simulate a good battery

Yes your Dead Battery will cause both lights to come on, if battery froze you cold be overloading you electrical system. Get It out of there!!

I just talked to the tech at my local dealer and he says the battery shouldn't make the check engine or voltage lights to come on?

I don't actually have a battery charger lol, what would that test be checking, cuz I don't have any other symptoms except for the check engine light and battery light flashing? And it isn't on all the time only once it's warmed up but then it goes out, it only comes on randomly?

Remove the battery and see if the lights stay off. A friend bought a used Pro with a wasted battery. The headlights were dim. We yanked the battery and lights came back to normal. I don't remember if there were any warning lights though.

Everything else is working fine, headlight is bright, it runs smooth and idles good, cluster lights are all working. It just doesnt have any symptoms other than the check engine light and little battery symbol, and they are not on all the time it's random

So I took it for a ride this evening and didn't get a check engine light, and everything worked good idled fine all lights working hand warmers etc. However it had a top end bog a few times at full throttle. I could not replicate it though it was random. I leaned it hard on the left side wide open and it bogged and dropped rpm until I let off and was on the throttle again. Could be that it's cold outside -16 last night and last time I rode it was like 0 that's Celsius too btw lol. So could have been just a little icing up on my throttle body's? What you guys think? Maybe nothing is wrong lol I'm not running any type of gas line anti freeze. Reason I'm asking for advice in this forum is because I don't have time to ride before I head out on a 4 day trip 100 miles from my pickup lol

If there is a dead short in the battery it will cause those lights to come on along with other issues should it not be removed. Sounds like it's been froze so likely there is a dead short. Remove the battery as well as the positive cable going to it so it cannot short out your electrical system. Hopefully good to go.

My 2013 pro was doing similar thing, check the drive belt deflection, if not set proper you might be hitting the rev limiter?
