Hi guys! I have an opportunity to jump in with a group next April for a bucket list trip to Chatter Creek Mountain Lodge to do some sledding. Seems to be some confusion on how to get there with the guys as its everyone's first time. I know the skinny FSR road you take to get there goes past Mile 51 riding area as I have rode there years ago in the late 90's. Does that road go all the way to the Lodge or do you park somewhere after Mile 51 and then they pick you up in a cat and take you to the lodge? Thanks!

ok, let’s clear this up a little for you. Drive to weigh scale, turn off for Bush FSR. From here you will drive 71km on the Bush FSR. At 71km you will take the chatter creek FSR. You will drive another 2km, for a total of 73km on logging roads. The last 5 years they have been plowing to this parking lot. Load your gear in a cat or strap it to the tunnel.

miles 51 is old school which is 82km total, which is basically the lodge.

Don’t forget to bring gas.

one last note, you cannot miss the turn off for the chatter creek FSR as they are the only people and are responsible for plowing this road as long as there in operation.
Thanks. The Mile 51 reference is very old school as that is the name we always knew that riding area as. We just assumed it was 51 miles from somewhere. Lol. The road continued on past that pull out but none of us ever knew where it lead to back then. I don't believe Chatter was even built back in the mid to mid late 90's when we rode that area. I'm sure we will figure out our gear and how to get it to the lodge next winter some time. I understand they have premium fuel at the lodge for sale? I'd hate to have to haul fuel in for 3 days of riding.

premium fuel for a premium price. not sure the quality, they normal fill the tank before or on first snow... late October/eary november

mile 51 is 82km, just shy of the cabin. It is one of the first turn offs for fun in a valley.

U can not sled year round. Yes late season but its a long hike to chatter ice field from cabin. Yes there r glaciers but u r not sledding to them from the cabin in summer. The lodge is closed for summer.
During sled season its 73 or 78km on bush fsr to upper parking lot. By april the road goes to sheet. A few mud holes that wreck trailers. Some years btter then others. 40km was bad this year. 2 years ago the 29 was the bad one. If u have a big trailer 3hours from highway is normal.
They did not provide toboggans this year to tow ur gear im. We bring our owen.
Died 91 gas is available for about 20c more than golden prices. Lodge is good, food is fantastic! We have camped in trailer but never again as lodge is so convenient and no mud or rain. Lodge is 14km from upper lot.so much eadier to deal with mud holes in trucks without trailers.
Yes this year things changed but they brought food to your room for breakfast and dinner. Then big out door fire each nite.
If u havent been u should. They will do everything to help with any sled issues.

Normally its Cat skiing in the winter, but I have drinks at the lodge when I'm sledding in there mid winter. They just dont want the runs getting tracks, but if you stay off that you're good.

If they were slow, who knows they might be willing to rent a room mid winter.

There is not much set in stone in this world, same rules dont apply to everyone, not what you know its who you know, squeaky wheel gets the grease,, skys the limit,,,, yolo.... ext ext ext

Agreed.... I’ve done the same thing there.

First time I was ever there 2002, bunch of us stayed in the original lodge. Great time with Dale and the crew.
I’ve been back a couple times since, but did not stay. Stopped in at the lodge, was a busy place for sure. Wonder what this year was like?

With covid and no out of country business u might be able to book a room with them mid winter, who knows. People sled up there all season only real consideration is don’t sled there ski terrain. If u head up, pop into the lodge they will direct you where to sled to not cause an issue. Road is ploughed all winter to parking lot....please respect!

When we were up there, we stopped at the lodge and they actually supplied a fellow to run us further up the winding cat trails to a large area we could play in. they point out to you where you can and cannot ride. Very kool up there. we had a few beers on the way out in their lounge too. Pretty kool to see where part of a famous movie was filmed. they still had a couple of the old black summits used in the stunts etc. Can't remember which movie it was filmed up there.... mission impossible? a James bond film?
