Should only be 4 bolts on the skid, Also a good op to inspect clean and grease yer skid for the season.
I changed mine on my 06 RT this spring and was able to pull the slider right out thru the slots in the track. I just lifted the rear end up to take the weight off, and they slid right out after loosening off those four bolts.
You do not have to remove the track from the sled, but you will probably have to remove the rear suspension skid(complete ass'y with shocks, arms, rails etc..), but the good news is like everyone else has said, there is only 4 bolts holding it in.... Just loose the two rear axle bolts(inside the wheels), and then loosen the adjusters as far as possible(till the rear axle is loosened to the point it wont move forward anymore), then supporting the sled on a bumper stand or the sled on its side, you can undo all 4 skid bolts(2 on side of tunnel close to the footwell, and the other 2 just underneath the tunnel about 2/3 the way back) and then work the skid out(seems to hang up on everything, but it will eventually come out)...... You don't have to touch the drive axle or chaincase at all.......... However, since you just bought it, you might consider servicing the chaincase too..... Use synthetic chaincase oil...... There is a drain plug underneath the chaincase, so you can drain it, however might be a good idea to take the chaincase cover off and check the lower bolt torque..... These bolts have a habbit of backing off, and then serious damage can occur(i've seen it)........... Good luck!
