I will try a husqvarna next

If you do buy a bigger sized one. The small ones are just a pulan. My dad bought one and it was junk! Hard starting and you couldn't cut a tree down with it, you tip it on its side to fall a tree and would stall out. He tried to adjust the carb, my brother that's a mechanic tried to, and took it back where he bought it still same crap. He now has a Stihl.

Stihl or Husky are good. I like Husky better. If you ever cut any bigger logs, get something with some power and 20 inch bar or larger.

And stay away from Poulan. Total garbage, it was pretty funny watching that POS in action though.

Took my friend over an hour to cut through this log...lol Turns one tree into an all day project.

Didn't help that the chain falls off every minute or 2. Also it stalls lots and take 50 pulls to start. Junk...

My old Husky would have sliced through that same log in seconds.

I think a pulan cuts faster if you swing it like an axe lol.

I have a Husky 372 XP. Used for about 8 years clearing trails. Some large trees. Great saw and has been flawless!

Cut about 15 cords of wood with my 455 rancher every year, easy start every time, easy maintenance, keep your gas clean and mixed, good bar oil and a sharp chain and away you go

My buddy has a husky, not sure the size of it but it cuts good as it's pretty big. The one thing I don't like and he don't either is the were the gas and chain oil goes in, the caps threads into the chain saw opposed to a cap that threads onto a spout. It just allows saw dust to fall into the saw.

Last year I bought a cheap princessauto homelite chainsaw for 89 dollars. Probably made in china. It is super light for the back of the sxs. I am amazed how good it cuts. Just took a plastic tote and cut a whole in it and put the chain guard on...instant power saw case. I have paid more for power saw bars than I paid for this whole saw. Just looked up the ratings 6 other people gave it a 5/5 rating so I am not the only one that was impressed, reg price is 119.

I have the 250 with 18" bar. never had a problem no easy start. Had it for about 4 yeas. Jut bought a 371 with 24" bar for the big stuff, it is a monster, works great on the big trees.

I need a new chainsaw. Been running a Sears 42cc / 16" blade for 20 years. This little saw has been abused and never lets up.
I'm looking at the Stihl MS 250 45cc / 16" blade.
Price $379.00

Any thoughts.

What do you plan on doing with the saw? It will be a step up from your old saw but yah get what yah pay for.
Its a great entry level saw, The quick chain adjust is a pain in the ass, so if it does not have it than thats a plus.

Imo I wouldnt look at anything less than 4hp. Dont look at displacement. A professional grade saw can have less displacement and more HP.
I have a 20yr old 254xp husky and it will out cut my buddies 230 stihl no prob.
Things like chain pitch, operating rpm play a part on how fast a saw cuts, especially when cutting firewood. Even with my chain dull I can still out cut him.

In the smaller saws I prefer the husky saws. The big stuff which is not very common in alberta, I bring out my 046 magnum stihl. That saw will go through a hard maple log like a hot knife through butter, both saws have seen hundreds of cords of hardwood when I had my hardwood business back east.

I've got the rancher. It was just called a 55 rancher then. 10 years with lots of use! It's a good saw but not totally professional grade.

Mine developed a air leak on a shatty rubber boot between the carb and cylinder. Leaned it out and toasted the top end. But rebuilt it with a Lazer brand piston/cylinder kit, then found the air leak issue. Saw runs like new again. Oem cylinders cost more than the saw.

In alberta there are not many trees we need longer than a 16" bar and then just Finnish it off from the other side. The shorter bar is more friendly for brush clearing etc.

I bought an MS250 new last summer and love it. I wish I would have upgraded the bar at the time of purchase. It's been a great saw, I only run at about 3/4 throttle and never tired at the end of the day.
This Stihl, is replacing my 1996 Stihl 009L, which stihl works great.
I also have a Stihl weed whacker straight shaft, that I bought 11 years ago and runs like new.

I have a husky 455rancher for camping. It stays in the camper. 18" bar. Runs perfect and never let me down. Big enough for anything we burn in the bush. For my actuall firewood I bought a 372 x-torc. That saw is a beast. I am running a 24" skip tooth chain and cut mostly birch. It will tear through a 20" tree like butter. You can lean into that saw and it just keeps chewing. It's not light but the work it does saves so much time.

Run a Husky 435, I absolutely love that thing light, decent power and starts easy. I compared it to an equivalent Stihl and preferred its handling and it's lighter. Can't go wrong with Stihl or Husky, go with whoever has the sale, can't beat the years of warranty they offer sometimes my Husky has 3 or 4, came with bunch of premix gas and and was only $300.
Stay away from the lowest grade Husky as they're Poulan, which you don't want...

I have the 435 too. Good mix of weight and power. And priced almost 100$ under the comparable stihl

I have an older ms250 without easy start. It had those crappie leaky oil and gas caps. Finally got the updated ones.It took a while to break it in but now it runs good. It's my camping, limbing7,quad saw.I also have a 036 pro, night and day better, heavy but does it cut and it's never been back to the dealer and it's probably 17 years old. Starts and runs like a dream, never have to touch the needles. Big difference between a pro saw and a homeowner saw.
