Chain case oil change

Just finished changing the chain case oil on my 800. What a pain there is no drain plug you have to take the entire cover off. Which requires the hood and can to be removed. Those exhaust springs couldn't be in a more ignorant spot either. Seem to have gone backwards in the engineering department with that design.

I came across a fare amount of injection oil in the intake when I took the hood off. I had notice some oil on the floor after my sled sat for the summer. I thought it was leaking chain case oil or was leaking at the injection tank. However it seems to be running down from the intake and was dripping out under the chain case. The oil that was leaking was cleaner than the chain case oil that I drained out. Has anyone seen this before? I started it up and it didn't smoke anymore than normal so the motor didn't seem full of oil

That chain case is the worst idea I have ever seen. Glad i don't have one any more. Some sled will drip a bit of oil over the summer. if it is a small amount I wouldn't worry about it.

I totally agree with the engineering going backwards. They sure don't make it easy to work on these machines anymore.

Some say that the chain case and oil reservoir are made for the 1100T models and don`t need to be that big for the 800`s.
I wish I had the normal chain case cover and a separate oil reservoir.
Yes the big thing on the 800`s are probably the lightest part on the sled, but I wish I had it old styre. They are making the sleds over complicated

Yup, but at least we can still check our spark plugs or power valves without going back to the dealer.....unlike Doo.

just did the chaincase on one of ours last Thursday, yes it was a pain, yes it was messy, had I not been changing the stock exhaust out at the same time, yes it would have been much worse. still a simple service to do

Changed limiter straps on friday.... that was even more painful!

How did you reach the lower torkx bolt ?? No one of my tool passes here

Use the torx tool that comes in the tool kit. Takes forever at a 1/4 turn at a time, but it works.

I changed the chaincase bolts out when I had mine apart, no more torx !!!!
