Just reading Snowriders fall 2012. See a big add to come sledding out here Radium way. Looks like all the poeple want your money in that town. Makes me wonder if they have put anything into it for your safety. Like makeing sure the road up that Hill across river is plowed and sanded. A safe place to park your sleds at nights? Gas and Food at a good price? Maps and dangers of rideing on a Glacier. Any place to go to the bathroom on trail? Warm up huts? Some one to monitor your safe return? Be safe.

Want somebody to hold your hand all the way to the top too?

Perhaps a sherpa to ensure you get out at night? Maybe some models to open your hotel door for you?

Scratch that, I totally want some models holding hotel doors open for me.

topic has already been posted but you are right, mayors and tourism branch want peeps to come out but do little to help out other than avertising. same issue in the summer with mountain biking.

the valley officials believe in tourism based on volunteer sweat and blood!

I know exactly what you mean. Back in 1985/86 ish I volunteered to help build the Golden ski hill for 2 summers slash burning and cleaning the brush with a promise of 10% discount on lift tickets. Never did see that happen once it was sold to a private company. That was hard work!

yup sure did get ripped off! Back then the Golden ski hill was built as a community ski hill for the locals so many offered to help build it. Dont ever remember hearing about season passes.

wow u got ripped off ! most ski hills give a seasons pass for doing trail clearing ...

This is the brand new area West of Radium correct?

Was talking to .....wow can't remember the booth at the Edmonton Snowmobile show, maybe it was tourism Radium? anyways the road up there was GUARANTEED to be kept taken care of for the first year (why only the first year I dont know). The lady said it was very rare to be guaranteed the road would be taken care of but it is. So yes they want our money and are doing things to make it safe to get there.
She also mensioned their is a cabin up there.I googled the area and found this, not sure if this is it or not.

Pic #2 looks like snowcat tracks and a boardercross course. Were they training on Farhnam again this year?

the olive is managed by the hut society and is use by rent only, no casual day use. this is one of the concerns being brought up.
the road is a bit tricky as it is actually a private road and is the responsibility of canfor. Since the mill shut down 2 yrs ago they have done no plowing which is why it has been in bad shape. The mill has opened again so canfor will be plowing it.
I hope the local gov. realizes how much work is done by the few club members and somehow figures out a way to put money back into the club.

Sounds like it might be time for the local club to become a bit more proactive and welcome/generate new members? I've yet to see a snowmobile club meeting advertisement or anything to generate members. I know of people who are part of the club that get left out of the loop that would like to see a larger membership and a stronger club participation in local activities and land use discussions. The one guy doing it does well for being one guy, but he can't be a one man show forever. :) The local club could probably have a presence at all the meetings around here lately on shared backcountry use if we had more members. There isn't any representation from snow sports or ATVing at this time...but it's loaded with greenies. Radium as a community should step up and contribute more to the local club if they are going to start trying to capitalize on it now and perhaps they should support backcountry power sports users at the land use talks. The village hasn't uttered a word towards supporting backcountry users, ever, (that I've heard anyways) and I have lived here and operated businesses here for most of my life. The lack of support for anything other than building condos or golf courses or ski hills is appalling and I find myself embarrassed often by some of the crap that the politicians do around here, you know they haven't set foot in the backcountry in a long time, if ever. Then, out of the blue a full page ad comes out promoting Radium and Catamount Glacier for sledding, even before it's officially opened.
