Just wanted to start a post on how dumb some are getting in the backcountry! on sunday i noticed that there were high mark tracks on castle ski hills private cat ski land! I found out later that day it was from the grooming and maintenance crew at the ski hill! way to give the sledders a bad name thank you skiiers!!!! But next was the high marks in the bowl just to the south of Haig wich I seen the 10 foot cornice hanging and sled tracks directly underneath them and not just 1 track but several!!!! there were also tracks on the opposite side of the valley on barnaby with highmarks going right up the middle of a nasty avy chute!!! I just wanna know what people are thinking out there! but if you were the guys who highmarked those hills please stay home castle area doesnt want you there! we prefer not to have avy fatalities in our area thank you!

I share your concerns. On Saturday there was a group of 10 climbing the big hill above the water falls just before the oil site. They spent the whole day there, and part of the cornice even came down. That hill is not safe in moderate to low avy conditions. It slides every year, and usually several times. They all parked at the bottom in the middle of the run out. We just shook our heads and left.

We rode out of Atlas this weekend and on Saturday at the cabin I overheard several groups while we had stopped for lunch talking about how they were going to go and climb this and that. I hoped it was all talk, thankfully I didn't hear of anything happening this weekend out there but it is just a matter of time before it all starts to fall again and it isn't going to take much to trigger it.

thank you that is the exact hill I'm reffering to!!! all you can do is shake your head and leave that area is not safe and especially with the avy cycle and weather we have had this season! I have seen that hill rip all the way from the top through the flats and nearly down the waterfalls a few years back that is scary!!! what do people find appealing about highmarking??? birdie O, Hrt offroad, OOC ZigZag,Guy, and myself rode an area in flathead that was DEEEEP very very safe 1 small avy slope to cross under but then you were in rolling hills with beautifully spaced tree's little creek beds and wind lips to play on and absolutely no avy danger unless you went looking for it! Now that is fun riding not going shot for shot up the same hill and same line!!!
