So what happens to the people that earn less that $35,000 per year or our seniors? Is there an exception for them?

Makes me so mad to know that this is how our government will achieve it's climate goals.
Tax the people to the point that we will be forced to change our living habits due to costs, while large carbon emitting entities can buy their way out of it by passing it on to us.
The government will not have to change their habits because their money comes from us as it is.
Can you tell that I will not get any rebate? I'm so tired of that smirky moron leading the federal government and the clueless one running our provincial government.

Next, they'll add online shopping to the carbon tax to counteract the drop in local spending.

Not that I'm for more taxes but something has to pay for Indian affairs and free loading welfare bums. Just a side note, BC has had a carbon tax since 2008 and haven't heard of anyone going under because of it.

Yup, they are knowingly lowering our quality of life.

I used last month's info for this.
I still don't fully understand it. $451.03 for 2017 then up to $691.55 for 2018?

Partially because the B.C. Tax is revenue neutral. Theoretically your other taxes should decrease to compensate for the feel good carbon tax. In Alberta the carbon tax grab is an overall increase in taxes that will take money directly out of consumers pockets via the tax, and indirectly via increased costs for everything as businesses pass their increased costs not the consumer.

The former yoga teachers and professional students that now run our province can't understand that directly taking billions of dollars out of the economy is not a good thing, particularly during a recession. They have no concept of economics or the free market. Most of them now make more money as politicians than they ever have before, and in for fact many of them this is their first full time job. So they don't care if it costs them a percentage of their wages because they've never had to pay taxes before. If any of us won 20 million in the lotto max we wouldn't care either.

So in hind sight would it not have been better to have a small sales tax all along or is the Alberta govt planning on using this carbon tax as a different format of a sales tax? It's hard to understand the rebate end of it honestly. Can carbon tax be written off the same as a sales tax?
