Why is it that there is carbon everything it seems in the sled industry. Why is it there no very few if any using a a carbon handle bar? The only reasoning i can see is the heat retention for heated grips.
yes but isnt that the same a carbon tunnel or rails or Polaris with the carbon over structure? they use carbon for so much now i feel it is strong enough for bars, No?
Carbon is very difficult to build any flex into. It can be done but not to the same degree as aluminum or steel. It is naturally a very stiff material which makes it great for chassis components that need to be rigid.
A good demonstration of this is when Ducati tried to build a MotoGP bike with a carbon frame structure. The bike was far too stiff and had no predictable flex when leaned over which is why all others use Steel or aluminum products.
In F1 cars they use all carbon but want the car to be as stiff as possible to allow only the suspension and tires to do the flex.
I have zero experience but am considering putting a set on my mtn bike. The claimed benefits are vibration dampening, strength, and weight. Apparently they look badass add well? Claimed downfalls at they don't take a hit well and extra care needs to be taken torquing up handle bar clamps and brakes etc. I would hesitate to put them on my sled due to all the contact with trees, rolling my sled, etc
I have used them on my mountain bikes (trail and Downhill) for a couple years not there is a pretty big difference. and extra care is buying a 15 dollar torq wrench. as for trees i have seen my I know light mountain bike tomahawk down a couple 20+ foot cliffs and land bars down or right into a tree and nothing. still ride that same bar to this day. yes a sled is about 400 pounds more but carbon can take some crazy hits.
