Ok, but mabe that was a not normal thing

I've heard of stock batteries lasting less time too, just saying

Exactly, 50% of this project is driven by light weight and 50% by being disappointed with lifespan of all other options. LiPo batteries do not like being left fully charged or fully drained. They also like to be balanced charged making them finicky. Extreme temperatures are not their friend either. Pain in the butt and expensive and not super easy to come by.

So what is full weight of kit, we run no starter ring gear for years now, so will it need to be added?? You say it's been around for years, but never heard it before on sleds till shot came about

for my self not looking for anything to heavy, but two lbs is not to bad.. And would try it

There are lawn mowers on the market that start this way. Also some race cars also use this technology but most of the time use a small lead acid battery in parallel with the capacitor to aid in recharging the capacitor between starts. We went larger on the capacitor to avoid adding the battery. As for weight it is about 25-30 lbs for a normal E-start system for a sled. The Doo's old system maybe more because they use a larger battery than Polaris and that is what I am basing my weights on. The Doo battery is nearly 15 lbs so the capacitor will drop the E-start system from near 30 to near 18 lbs.

The Shot system just uses the capacitor to drive the magneto so it is great but there are many pre 2018 out there with E-start. I have never owned a E-Start sled before and now I find myself dealing with 2 of them and I hate the weight penalty. My real opinion is that E-start was a band-aide developed for carbed sleds that could flood when rolled over. The new sleds start at a flick of the wrist and that is almost as easy as turning the key. There are some that have bad shoulders or weak arms or are just plain lazy so I expect E-Start is here to stay.

E-start has been around along time. Don't think they had rollovers in mind when they came up with that lol

The new sleds do all pull start real easy, so if you are looking to save weight pull start is the best option.

I will agree with Teth-Air about needing electric start for bad shoulders. I never had it on any of my sleds until my shoulders went bad. Now, it is a godsend. So much less discomfort at the end of the day. But that is only one old mans opinion. I am willing to pay the weight price now that I can't do as much on the sled either.

Don't forget to add, when in off camber situations, I also find when you go to pull it, it can flop you over and or is hard to get a good pull and cord to plastic damage

I had e start on my 10 ptek, never got it on my 14 xmx ( and wished I had the hole time) and now have it again on my 16 T3 174

Im not sure where the whole "you are either gibbled or lazy to need e-start" attitude came from lol.. But regardless.. I know LOTS of people that LOVE e-start and are neither of those. Like tex said.. There are some stucks I can think of where it sure would have been nice to have. Most of the people I ever hear talking about weight savings.. and lightweight rivets and seats and all that crap... are the same guys that put 15 full cans of beer in their bag before they head up. I would throw a percentage # off the top of my head of the amount of people I THINK can actually tell a difference of 30 pounds on a sled but we all know I will get torched. This will be a good product and I think it will sell! Have had quite a few inquires on retrofitting "SHOT" on older e-techs so this would fill that need. Lets be honest... Look at the sleds and accessories now a days... The sport is taking a turn more towards convenience and function.. Its getting more and more expensive to do and as money becomes more scarce people want to make sure they enjoy every bit of time on their rigs and make it as effortless as possible. sled "flickabitiy"... T motion.... Sleds getting thinner... lighter... Its all about less effort.. E-start falls right into that.

I was going to say, "If you ride a Cat that has the center pull-start, those off camber situations are not an issue" I rode a Cat a few times and really liked the center pull cord and I am not a lefty either.
