When I started my wood hauling process (May 15th), I went into the shop for the chainsaw(s) and all the other tools one needs to accomplish the task.

I heard a woodpecker tapping (we have had trouble with them digging bugs out of the logs and trying to get flies under the siding), so I went outside to look around. I didn't see the woodpecker anywhere. Back into the shop and there was the noise again and it sounded like the noise was in the chimney. Outside again but no woodpecker. I came into the shop and sure enough the noise was in the wood stove. I opened the door and there it was trying to peck the fire brick. Long story short, the flicker flew out the open door, crashed into a window, and ended up all startled and whatever a woodpecker would be after a fall down a chimney and confined in a wood stove. He landed on the top of the open overhead door. Took a breather, and eventually flew outside.

Today, May 21, I go to the shop to sharpen my saw. My wife comes out and we talk about the woodpecker. I open the stove and show her. With her eagle eye, she noticed some feathers. Lo' and behold, the stupid woodpecker decided to go down the chimney a second time but this time I wasn't around to hear it tapping. The pictures tell the final tale. For the last picture, I moved it and snapped another photo.

Like the title says, you can't fix stupid......:noidea:

My brother out in Stettler had one get caught up in the combustion air fan for his furnace last year. Crawled in the vent pipe and tried to grind himself up. Wish I still had that picture. It was quite a site!

I've hung old CD's on fishing line from the tops of my logs and in some of the trees where they like to peck. The mirrored finished rotates and the reflection keeps them away. I also hang a fist-sized rock below the CD's so that they don't get tangled.

We've got a friendly little pecker friend who likes to start his morning EVERY DAY at 5am on our tin roof. Seems to know the layout of our house too cause his favorite spot to peck is directly above the master bedroom

we have one that likes to peck on the metal rain cap for the furnace chimney at the office. Echoes thru the whole building. Originally I though something was wrong with the furnace.

No woodpecker problem for us, just robins. They start flying into our master window around 5:30 am and continue all day, we have owl decoys and ribbons hanging now seems to be doing the trick.

For the past 2 mornings in a row a bloody robin has been pecking away at the living room window at 5am waking me up. If it wasn't for the wife's greenhouse being in the line of fire I would have had the 12g out the window this morning.

We had that last summer, stoopit robin was fighting his reflection in the window and crapping EVERYWHERE. He'd get tired or get a headache, fly onto the handrail, drop a deuce, then go back to the window sill peck, drop another deuce, repeat steps 1 and 2 all day...little bugger had quite the routine going for about 2 weeks. What a mess!
