Our costs for grooming are about $15.00 per k.m. I am sure in B.C. with steeper grades, more snow, and fuel that is taxed more the costs would be higher. $25.00 per day is cheap!

I wish our government saw our sled trails as a tourism asset and managed them that way. Look what Quebec and Ontario do and they must have 100 times as much trails as that is all they ride. How many more tourist dollars would we get from the states and even the rest of Canada if our trails were known for how well they were maintained.

Really? The further the BC government stays away the better, IMHO. Right now the well maintained trails to the alpine have the tourists coming. What we are doing now works and if clubs are run like a business, they are working very well. If the government gets involved, it will just cost everyone more money and the service will go backwards. Personally, I don't want the government involved other than the process of registering the trails to protect them against industry.

The trail system in Quebec & Ontario and the rest of the eastern part of the continent is a way different than what we have. A lot of people have the dream of the hundreds of thousands of dollars coming to the clubs but in reality, those people are having a great deal of trouble trying to figure out our unique individual club trails. I am not saying it can't be done but no one has come up with a solution that is manageable.

i honestly cant remember the last time i rode on a freshly or nearly fresh groomed trail but
i seem to have to pay every time i go out for a ride
maybe they should just stop charging to ride on a ungroomed trail problem solved
if were paying for it we should at least get it
if the cost of trail grooming is so much how in the hell can they afford to groom all the trails out east

I'm really not surprised that people have no idea were the money goes. Some people are under the impression our health care system is free, or the gov't has it's own money.
Most people honestly have no idea how much things cost, and it's getting worse as more and more 'yuppies' are drawn into the sport.

Anyway, more gov't is NEVER the answer. As was mentioned, it really is amazing how much money people spend on a new machine, top notch gear, and everything else they they really never see the benifit of, but when it comes time to spend some actual cash on what is probly no more then $5 to $600 a year, they bitch an moan.

I bet if clubs had a credit card machine at the trail head, or offered to finance a yearly membership they could triple what they charge. Or, make club membership like a charity and use it as a write off. That might be a better way to milk some of that big oil money guys like to brag about??

Seriously...... How many times, in how many threads, must it be stated that the fee is NOT just a grooming fee. It's a trail user fee. That nice warm cabin you use to warm your whiny ass isn't free you know. Along with all the other stuff that fee is used to pay for. Maybe just sell your sled and take up a new hobby. "Problem solved"!

Here's what I got today, nice bonfire hole in front of the club cabin. The modern day youth is painful.

Hahaha but your bang on!! And your right it is a user fee NOT a grooming fee. And I think it should be charged every day regardless if it's a 2 day old groom

Sorry Max you contradicted yourself with this one.

If it's not a Grooming fee why would you charge it if the Groom is two days old, if it's not a Grooming Fee?

So if it's not Groomed why pay to ride on crown land?

Not saying I don't agree, I pay it when I ride.

Again, not a grooming fee then why pay it on crown land.

Good post. I have absolutely no problem paying a user fee for any club maintained area. The only issue I have with fee's(it's small and very bitter) is guys like Lund who figure out of province riders should be the only ones who pay to ride on Canadian soil. End of drunken statement.

i shouldn't have said not a grooming fee. It covers many aspects unrelated to grooming aswell as grooming. I am a strong believer in the betterment of the sport and I one day dream that clubs could show a profit on the books and have th funds to upgrade that cabin, extend that parking lot, purchase new equipment etc. That's all. We are not a green sport in the minds of those lobbying against us therefor funds are in short demand from the government. We need to do this ourselves and what better way than from user fees. Including grooming :) until something like this changes we will keep heading in the downward spiral we are in. No big deal to most but as involved as I am with association of British Columbia snowmobile clubs it's easy too see what's happening here. We are on our own
