Ok so I need a quad, trying to decide between the two I know the differences between rene and outy basically but how much difference is the gen 2 frame in the newer models? The max I believe is longer wheelbase any thoughts? Main purpose of this machine is plowing snow in the winter and checking oil wells in the summer. Also is the alpine plow system all its cracked up to be?

Get the Outlander XT-P...it is Basically a Renegade with Outty plastics.

I ran the Alpine flex plow this winter. It is nice. The ease of mounting and un-mounting the plow ROCKS. Make sure you install the electronic winch brake switch....I originally decided I didn't need it....and promptly broke my winch line 87 times. It's worth it and it works. The plow itself is a nice piece. The only downfall is the cutting edge: it is rounded, not sharp. Works great for gravel driveways but doesn't cut right in like it maybe should at times. Overall I give it a 9/10. The kickback system is awesome. Mounting the plate that the plow hooks to is a PITA. Have alcohol handy. At least once it's on there, it can stay...no need to remove it in the summer.

Don't know about you, but I find having the extra rack space to be a big bonus. Even with a rad relocate, you can still use your front rack for some smaller shhtuff.

Racks are very easy to put on a rene........I have to say when your out with the boys rippin the muddier you get ,the more fun it is. That being said, there comes a time that enough is enough, and you do get tired of getting covered constantly, Had the flares on my old rene, it helped, but not a lot.......

I hear you on the flying mud thing, fun sometimes.... I put 3-5000 km on a rig per yr. So I am over that I want something that hauls azz, reliable etc. So thanks for the recommendations every body going to go look at a xt-p max I think. Just wish there was a different color combo and I hate painted plastics. Oh well... whatcha gonna do. More first world issues..

You will be happy with it. I bought the expensive brp plow and am pretty happy with it. The wear blade isn't the best as it is curved instead of straight but the height it lifts, the shut off and the ease of use is with it imo.

Another thing that comes to mind is it is much easier to relocate your rad on an outty.
It can be done on a Rene but spoils the look....imo

Ive got a gade and my brother has a outty both gen 1 the fenders and racks are nice for staying clean and if you want to haul anything but in tight riding or mudding the gade is smaller and more nimble like a race quad on steroids compared to a big tank both are great it's just personal preference

I had the rad on the rack on my 07....but on the Renny, I agree...it just looks bad. On the other hand, I've never overheated the Renny. The rad is waaay easier to clean than the Outty rad.

I've owned both and I love my Renegade 800 XXC more than I loved my Outlander

For the fun factor the Rene got it, (in my opinion) all you can do is hang on to those handlebars when you hit the throttle, daughter and son in law both drive Rene,s with Mega Mayhem's on them , go through most anything , thinking they are easier to handle in the rough stuff, they are beasts when they need to be

So is the 1000 rene worth it compared to the 800R?

there is only 11 hp difference in between the 2, and the newer ones (G2) are both on the same frame , however that number is misleading compared to the instant torque and speed you can muster with the 1000, that is just what i see, I drive a commander however for a reason, i am really good at hurting myself on a quad it seems, and when you get to be older , things just don't heal as fast as they used to,
