I'm bored today. To make my day better I thought I would check out the sledbetties website. Sledding definitely has a positive effect on the ladies.
After looking at the image gallery I started thinking about taking pictures when I'm riding and the fact that I don't like the shots from the point and shoot cameras. I have an older digital rebel that I'd like to take but I don't want to carry it in a backpack or a front mount camera bag.

Anyone have luck securing a decent camera bag in front of the handlebars?
I'm thinking that there's a lot less bouncing there than at the back on the tunnel and if (ha ha... when) my sleds rolls, the camera has some protection from the bars and hood. I tried carrying it once in the tunnel bag and had to send it in for repairs the next day.

Posted this and thought... what about a pelican case instead of a bag?

I carry my Canon XSI on my handle bars on the inside, not the outside. It's in a triangle sort of shaped semi hard case I bought. The wife had to had ad an additional strap so I and secure it so it won't bounce. Works just great.
I carry my zoom lens in my back pack, a little inconvenient but safer IMO.
Took about 500 shots last season.

Works great for getting some of those "long shots"

You would likely need a larger Pelican case for a Digital Rebel, I am guessing you don't ride a Doo, they have quite a few carrying options.

I have a nice riser bag that has front and back storage which holds both the Video camera and sometimes the regular digital.

My buddy has a nice triangler shaped bag that attaches to the gauge pob just behind the windshield that holds a camera as well.

Both are Doo products.

What you might like is something like this....

I like that it has an all weather protective cover. You could attach it with compression straps used on sleeping bags and other such items.

No doo just the poo :)
I have a kata bag that I bought from a friend at work. I may try to rig that up to my handlebars.

Up till now I've carried my 400D and video camera in my backpack. Not so much for the camera body, but to reduce the vibration on the IS lens elements. I have a bag similiar to your kata bag that goes in the top of my backpack. I'm not comfortable carrying my gear strapped to cold metal(tunnel or bars).

Didn't get to ride with the new Float 30 avy bag last year, so I'm not sure how everything will fit in. I'm also looking at higher end P&S cameras as they are starting to come with more optical zoom (14X most I've seen so far) and the ability to shoot some decent video. The P&S will cost less than one of my IS lenses, and be easier to carry.

Of course if I damage my 400D, then I could move up to a new T2i body and get HD video!!:d
