Is there any interest in this concept show for the Calgary area, since there is no sled show for obvious reasons this year that I helped getted started 22 years ago? concept is since sledders drive a bazzion miles every winter, I'm sure you guys and girls could pile into your trucks and physical go to all the sled shops in Calgary and area, to see what they have to offer including specials. I personally would think it would be great to see all the shops that employee locals and support the cause. Any suggestions?

Thanks Randy, for vote of confidence. So on that note, I know Trent and Sheldon are putting on a great event next Friday and Saturday at Walt Healys, Lucas at Bow Cycle South is putting on event next week-end including a swap meet. So sledders watch the thread it's going to fast track quickly for Oct 14/15th weekend, and nudge your favorite sled shop to join in. Thanks should be fun.

I haven't lived in Calgary my whole life, but one thing I have noticed since being here, support for anything always seems to lack.

Prime example was Dan Davidoff coming to town to promote his new video and the turnout was less than exciting. I have had more people over for a BBQ. Hey good for us who went, I think everyone walked away with some swag. Sure not everyone is interested in going to a bar to watch a video and maybe don't enjoy his videos, but same goes for many things. I am sure he was disapointed and really, I wouldn't blame him for skipping Calgary on his next visit.

The snowmobile shows here have lacked in attendance, the outdoor shows the same, now they call them the outdor and travel shows. Not one sign of motorsports anything there.

Bow Cycle has their open houses, they even post it on here and it gets no attention on the forum. Most people find out through the post cards they send in the mail. Walt has theirs and as well it is not well promoted. Personally I am driving to Edmonton to go to the sled show even if I am going to kill a day doing it.

There are I am sure thousands of people in Calgary who enjoy some sort of motorsports. I know I see sled trailers parked everywhere, bikes going in the back of trucks every weekend, but why no turn out?

I still think the original setup you got going Dusty was the way to go. All the dealers brought their non current clothing and accessories. There was lot's of used sleds from dealers and private peeps as well. Even the grass drags went over quite well. Today's buyer doesn't want to look at new sleds because they've seen them at the spring shows and on dvd or online. Bottom line is guys want deals at least in this area they do. The guys that want to look at Doo's will go to Bow next week and the Yammy guys will go to Walt's. I don't see alot of people doing a tour around town especially if drinks are on the program. JMO.

Kenny, i think i should scan in some pictures of the first swap meet, with grass drags and dance, the funny part will be seeing all the guys when they were skinny with hair and a drink cost $2. lol

HaHaHa. Those were the days. Cheap booze, long hair and handlebar mustaches. Boy if we only knew then what we know now.

I think turn outs are lower, cause most are surfing the internet for the latest and greatest, but don't have time to see the real deal. lol

Great idea, I agree Dusty more people seem to be shopping for parts and such on-line these days most manufactures even though they have local dealers set up will still sell direct to the end user. Likely a good percentage of people go this route with little support the local dealers maybe. Nothing is better then heading out to the Sled Shop BS ing and hearing a few good stories with a sled movie playing in the back ground and you can’t buy that while your shopping On-Line..... I have a few things I can bring along, keep me posted on this.

There has been a noticeable lack of interest and attendance in recent years. It was the wrong kind of show for this area.

and they always doo it when the snow is flyiong thats a big problem,, peeps on line ohh Im going to calgary sled show Im like fawk the show Im going to the hills its end of november,, that could be a serious factor

also the edmonton show is so much bigger if calgary is after well who would go,, they need to slip it in before edmonton to have a hope of getting better attendance...

but I vote Chesty!!!!! who's got some land?? great idea Dusty

ahhhh the good old days when you started the season w a big swap meet to put your wrecks back into shape for the up comming season
if you wanted speed you took off the cowl and packed a can of eyther between your legs and pointed at the carb ready to rip
maybe a fun filled day show and shine and hot dog roast at kat would be in order but hard to organize but would be fun just the same
if you want help i would be willing call me and let me know

I think the show here died because it was too little, too late and nobody wants to pay more for parking than the show itself. The good deals were always in Edmonton.

Hold it somewhere else, bigger than pre-stampede days and bring back the swap meet. I like looking for deals and it doesn't have to be brand new stuff either.
For the guys that set up a table in the swap meet, maybe you could offer your services to those that have stuff to sell but not enough to warrant a table. Charge a reasonable fee to stand there and watch my stuff till it sells or not.
Throw a cell number on the item so you can get a hold of the owner for questions. Some of you guys have been at this long enough, you can laugh at the people that want too much.
Could maybe get some funds from ASA to cover some costs and make this for sledders and not "consumers". The Calgary show was a lot like going to the Sled Mall - pretty boring (with the exception of the Burandt/Rasmussen show).

I like going to bike rallies to have some fun, meet some people, check out other bikes and find something I didn't know I needed till then.
