at least someone would hear a grinder or see the sparks....... what else is a person todo? I mean obviously we're insured, but at what point do we just stop locking our stuff up and say "hey you want it, take it"?

The other thing that surprises me is how many people travel with their keys in their machines..... Mine are NOT in ANY of my machines when I travel.

hard to hear or see anything from 20km away when they have your toys in their shop being parted out. not sure if they need a key for that either. like one poster said, you could always have bigger chains and fatter locks than buddy next to you.

all you can do is make it look unappealing to steal, chains, locks, whatever..... back into stalls where you can, etc....... they want it, they'll take it.....

12 American Bulldogs are my security system for my family and our sleds.
Most people won't even come into my yard when they hear them bark!
If interested check out my site to see all our dogs and future litters.

What would be the best protection for the enclosed with two axes? Put a chain through 2 wheels on one side? So it cant be dragged away? Chain it to the pole or a tree? That ABUS on the link is way too thick to go through trailer rims. But thin chain doesn't help. Denver boot looks big but if they know how to open the lock it would be useless.
Keep the rear ramp to the wall, so it cant be opened?
Anything else? What do you think?

I got the exact same chain from Vernon Lock and Safe. Bought it a few years back. between an 8 ft chain and a lock it was $190 bucks! Use it all the time and so far so good!

got a PM from adamg last night in regards to ABUS 12ks chains..... look dang tough, going to do some research on them this weekend.

Just curious if you have tested one of the end links? Would bolt cutters go through it? What padlock are you using with it? The locks seem to be the easiest thing to cut much of the time.

Park where you can plug it in. Put a cot and an electric heater in there and sleep in it with a shotgun!

biggest problem I see in locking stuff up is, where is the next weakest link in the chain so to speak.

you get a chain that is hard to cut, then you need an equivalent lock, then you need to look at what it is all locked to on trailer or sled/quad. then how trailer is hooked to tow vehicle, then how secure tow vehicle is. may be easier to just shoot the thief or not have anything they want to steal.

If i get a moment i will take a picture of the cable lock i use.
The construction design in pretty ingenious. Its like a very large necklace. A steel cable that runs through large ball bearings and harden round stock. They are put together alternating ball bearing and round stock all the way to the end. The round stock is machined in such a way that the ball actually fits partly inside the round stock so access to the cable is impossible.
The entire cable is lined with a highly flexible plastic sleeve that is shrunk fitted and the entire thickness is about 1".
Here is the cool thing, the cable CANNOT be cut using a cutter, cause it would require you to cut through harden bearings and round stock before reaching the cable. Plus it cannot be cut by a grinder as the balls and round stock will just spin with the grinder wheel.
Basically this just leaves a torch to cut with, which will require time.
I bought 4 of these about 6 years ago and gave 2 to my son for his bikes, got them from a Harley shop.

I guess the thief could alway try to pick or drill out the lock.
