Has anyone purchased any oem parts from the states through extremeparts?.com? I am looking at about $280.00 US for what I need. But after checking at ecko they were about double the price.
Has anyone when down this pass before?
Is there a savings at the end of the day or should i buy local? And if i buy local who has the best prices. The pieces are for a 2007 Summit X 800R.
Cheers

Yup... I have bought a ton of stuff from the states (not just sled stuff). YOu need to make sure that they ship it USPS (it will come to you via Canada Post). They don't charge the insane brokerage charges like the UPS THIEFS!!! With the dollar at par and local parts priced at double you will definitely be saving at least 25% which in your case works out to about $70 USD... worth it if you ask me!

When importing via USPS you pay a reasonable flat-rate (around $10) brokerage fee. UPS or Fedex apply brokerage fees based on item value and you pay a lot more.

Here's a link to the UPS brokerage fee schedule for info

Of course you still pay GST (and PST if applicable) in addition to the brokerage fee regardless which shipping service you use.

UPS does not charge brokerage on air freight. If you ship standard, you get nailed, but if you ship express, expidited, or 3-day select, you don't. Usually, the fees are more than the extra costs for faster service, so ask the shipper if they will send it air.

May not be the same in the city, but when UPS delivered something to my home, I wasn't there so they left my $450.00 camera sitting on the front step. Luckily I have honest neighbors, it sat there for 2 days before
I had reason to check........ Then they tried to tag me with a freight bill that had already been paid.

UPS does screw the average consumer with their brokerage rates. When I was in corporate Supply Chain we could import over $100,000 on a single commercial invoice for a $45 and they even fronted the GST to the gov't and invoiced for it. That is where wholesalers and dealers may find an advantage if they have large volume $ import against a flat rate brokerage fee but they have to shop brokerage rates to realize any benefit.

Make sure the sender specifies "signature required on receipt"; otherwise it's up to the drivers discretion and they may leave expensive stuff on the front steps.
