We buy three or four passes each year. Three this year as I only got three sleds right now I have rode 1 time with one sled so far this year :(.
More of a charitable donation for us but those funds are what helps keep areas open for us all to play
The guys who complain about trail pass costs and don't buy one are likely the same guys that complain ins. Is to much for their 30k sled then whine when it gets stolen or whine about registration costs etc but that is another dead horse thread IMO

A great thread and once again cudos to Dave Norona for doo-ing all that he does to keep our sport lively and in discussion mode.

Membership and trail passes? The old BCSF used the words "trail permit" on the membership decals. I never agreed with that as people got that confused with "trail pass". One buys a BC club membership (either BCSF or ABCSnow) and club members don't have to buy a daily trail pass. The daily trail pass is for grooming expenses and as we all know it doesn't really pay for all the fuel, maintenance, and operation of the SnwoCats. A portion of the membership cost or fee goes to the Provincial organization that the club belongs to, the grooming program, and general revenue.

Numbers of members mean a lot when grants and land use issues are dealt with. If a club wants a trail expansion, a new cabin, or whatever and they have 25 members the gov't will not be as pro-active as they would be if that same club had 200+ members. It is all about numbers, whether that be generated revenue, documented expenses, numbers of daily users, local hotel statistics, and/or club memberships.

By all means, join an active club where you ride and help support the sledding community.

Once again, thanks to Dave and that other fantastic, tireless worker called Ron LaRoy for the efforts that they continually, year after year, put into our beloved sport.
