Sledslut,

I agree that I would be upset about the lost sales, but you should really consider directing your anger at the creators of this problem, the Canadian divisions of the Manufacturers and their representatives. There is no reason for the price differences we are seeing, especially after the dollar has been near parity for this long. If I was a dealer, I would be putting some serious pressure on them to fix this, and talking with other dealers to figure out as many ways as possible to force them into resolving this.

Also, I would reconsider your approach to the guy that comes through the door looking for the clearance letter. At this point you have already lost the sale, but can you really blame him for wanting to keep thousands in his pockets? If he is remotely intelligent he knows that the price difference is the fault of Yamaha of Canada, not your dealership. If you help him out and charge him a reasonable fee for the letter, he will likely be back for parts, accessories, service, and if this cross boarder price difference thing ever gets fixed, he will probably buy his next machine from you as well. Misdirect your anger at him (again, it is Yamaha of Canada that is screwing you), and he may never walk through that door again!

if you look right at the top of that.. it states in red lettering.. THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY CLEARANCE LETTER.

the reason behind that. is that the canadian dealers can charge that. for the time to do the paper work. the loss of a sale.

i know if somone called me askeing for a clearance letter and for a sled they got from the dealer down in the US. id tell them to pound said..

its awesome we are supporting our local dealers here. sorry for who this will make mad. but really. support ur local dealer. because if you dont he may not be aroudn next time.. or that one time u need to get going and he has what u need on that sled right in front of you. then he may just think twice about takign it off.

just my .02c

all in all SUPPORT YOU LOCAL DEALERS.

p.s. Bow Ridge Sports, Bow Cycle North and South, Banner Rec in kelowna, Kelowna Yamaha. i can keep going.. just to name a few good dealers around that im willing to bet. wont do it

i do agree with that.. but ummm where did yamaha come into a BRP issue??

also if u support your local dealer.. i know for an examply. Bow Cycle does a gold card. whitch is something like 10% off BRP stuff, and 10-15% off of aftermarket ( dont quote me ) but for the what 2000$ u saved going state side you would over the course of 3 years save that on discounts. average spend 2-3000 a year on sled parts. estimated.. now take 15% of that and u got 1350 over 3 years.. so what ur loosing 650$. gas to get there. fees at the border. your time.. it equals out id say.

iam not arguing the point.. its just the way i look at it really. weather it be arctic cat skidoo yamaha polaris honda ktm suzuki dodge gm. doesnt matter who.

Oops! For some reason when I first read your post I thought you were associated with a Yamaha dealer and literally meant that you would not do this for someone if asked. My mistake, I did not intend to single out Yamaha, as all the manufacturers need to stop this practice.

I really feel bad for the good dealers out there, as they are the ones that suffer. The consumer buys from the US and imports, still gets the machine they want. The manufacturer still gets the sale, just through there US division instead of the Canadian one. The Canadian dealer loses the sale over something beyond their control and gets the shaft from the manufacturer.

However, I think the only way this will end is if the manufacturers see their Canadian sales numbers dive.

Polaris has a good system. $50 US for a letter, faxed in 24 hours, 1-800 to make things easy, took me 10 minutes on the phone

I will never deal with BMW Canada again after their $525 recall letter anal reeming. If I can't buy aftermarket parts, I buy all my BMW parts off ebay and ship to canada. I will never give BMW Canada another cent.

I am a factory rep for Industrial Electrical Equipment and i can tell you this we have slashed our profit margains considerably just to combat the cross border shopping of product. We needed to do something just to keep the sale in Canada.
