from the horses mouth.regardless of it's used, new, current or not.the original 1yr. factory warranty is void.however the extended warranty,if it comes with the sled or your able to purchase it,will be honoured,on an imported sled.i prefer to buy locally, but i can't get a decent deal here,i try to deal and i can't even get a frickin' gas can thrown in.i can save 25-3000 buying down south, that's included the cost of getting it here and all.the dealers i've talked to will bend over backwards to sell you a sled.here, this a deal the dealer tried to sell me because i balked at 11500 for a new 09 everest,an 08 summit with 1800 miles, stock, for 9000,yeah frickin right.(and still no gas can)

The problem is they put you on the bottom of the list for any repairs. You may not see your sled till the warrenty runs out. Not nice but thats how MOST will treat you.

A dealer in the states will not sell you a brand new one, unless you have address in the states....

any dealer that will sell you a brand new sled out of there dealer, runs the chance of losing the dealership. there is a reason they void your 1yr warranty to stop people going to the states to buy the unit. when you pull a unit history on any BRP product it will tell us " this unit was bought in the United States, is this customer a touriest YES or NO" weather you answer yes or no unless its a Saftey Recall then BRP will not warranty anyhting on that unit even with the BEST warranty.

Maybe im wrong about the BEST warranty but i know for sure how the system works as iam a service wrighter for a BRP dealer.

personally i dont blame them for voiding the warranty if you wanna go south to buy the unit you can go south to get warranty on the unit.

Really who cares about the warrenty it is useless anyhow something will go wrong youll take it in and they will be like hoses arnt included in warrenty. Or youll blow a motor and they will be like were you driving in fine powder and youll be yes well it scorced your pistions. Or whatever as far as i am concerned with anything boats, snowmobiles, quads, vehicles go to the states and do the work yourself their are a few good dealerships in canada but most forget you as soon as you buy the product just my to cents. i have probably saved 30 to 40 grand purchasing things out of the states and i gurentee you that with warrenty i would have saved mabey 3000 in repairs that would have been covered. Just my two cents

It's not the Canadian dealers fault that everything is more up here and there is no warranty on US product. The manufacturer's set the pricing, the Canadian dealers pay more for the product than it retails for in the US, we don't like it anymore than you do. Same with staff, wages are higher in Canada, property is more expensive but we still choose to live here. I used to live overseas and came here and made 3 times more money......but my home cost 3 times more, groceries cost more, etc. etc. Supporting US dealers won't help to keep Canadian dealers here. As a dealer I will do whatever I can to help my customers that support me, heck I'll even sell you parts and work on the sled you bought in the US but, unfortunately you will have to foot the bill as the manufacturer won't.

I realize that BRP is just trying to protect it's dealers and charge more from canadians because we'll pay more (different market segments, etc.)

Unfortunately, most dealers have this same attitude whether you purchased your sled down south or from the next closest dealer in your area. Is it that important who pays you for the work order? (the customer, BRP or santa claus...) I thought the point of being in business was to make money. Turning away business just because the customer didn't by his sled from your sales department is just bad business.

Using this train of thought, what if my sled was bought used? Does this mean I have to track down the guy that sold it to me on kijiji and make him fix it?

If dealers want the customer to support them, they should support the customer. Why should we have to give every single cent of our business to just one dealer just to get the service we deserve?

This is the kind of dealer we should all support because he appreciates his customers regardless of where they bought their sled.

Sly is absolutely right as far as pricing and I think he has a great attitude towards his customers. But some other dealers treat you as though it's a privilage to buy from them at full price...

Every sled I own was purchased new in canada from the dealer that treated me the best and gave me a fair price.

unfortunately that's the attitude of many dealers.if i take a used sled in to be worked on i'm put at the bottom, costly labor.i look for the best deal and there are loopholes around the "new product".so loose your dealership because of a poor economy or loose it because a socialist company whines about free trade

i to agree with supporting dealers that support you but especially i am more talking about car dealerships i have had pretty good luck with toy dealerships as far as service is concerned and really on most sleds , quads, etc unless you are going to save at least 3 grand it aint worth getting one down south but vehicles is a different story when you are talking 15000 grand you have to be stupid to purchase in canada and sorry but warrenty aint worth 15000 unfortunatly if you are the unlucky one that gets the lemon well then be it but if you take that 15000 grand that you save on a truck and then you can also have a brand new sled and part of a quad. And i it seems not to matter if you call up a dealership to get service done regardless if you bought it their or not you are looking at waiting a week or so that is why i prefer to screw warrenty and support the small shops cause if something breaks it is better to put aftermarket in anyhow instead of the same oem crap just my two cents

I too agree with supporting local. i bought BRP once...i wont make that mistake again. the warranty isnt worth the paper its prinited on. mostly my own issue with BRP is the piss poor attitude they have.

they have it in thier heads theyr the best there ever was and dont give a damn about customer satisfaction.

my.02

il be going way of Cat next time round

i still like my XP dont get me wrong its a great sled. i just cant stand behind a company with weak moral fiber as BRP has

no where id i say that we wouldnt help. but there is no possable way warranty is an option. BRP wouldnt allow it. and as much as for supporting your local dealer then why go down to the states and buy the unit. iam not trying to start a pissing match or anything. jsut my thoughts on that.

Its funny how this system works one way...Whether you buy a sled or a vehicle in the US you get no warranty and dealers put you on the back burner to give you service. Its not that long ago (maybe 5yrs) when we had a 60 cent dollar and the Americans were up here buying every Diesel truck they could get there hands on...Brokers had Ads lookin for vehicles in every news paper and when those vehicles went south there were no issues with getting warranty. I have asked a couple dealerships about this issue and all I get for an answer was "well that was kind of different circumstances". Can anyone tell me the difference?? Why when it benefits Americans to shop here its fine but now that we have a strong dollar its wrong to buy south? So are we getting screwed? Just something to think about.

yeah... it was called " free trade " in which Canada got screwed over..i wont go into detail as i dont feel like typeing that much..LOL

do some research on free trade agreements between Canada and the US and youl see why it works one way but not the other.

as for cars.. i dont know about every manufacturer, but as far as BMW goes they will warranty no matter what side of the border you bought it on

Actually, the Diesels that went south were largely registered here in CND and then sold down there. Can give you the names of many fictitious Ford owners up here who never even saw the truck they registered and sold in the US.
$1G in their pocket for the use of their name.

Same can be done down there, coming this way. A dealer "friend" pre-registers before you get there, 1500 miles on the odometer and you're good to go. Only thing with Chev, is that you wait 7500 miles I believe it is, or 3 mos. Warranty then isn't an issue up here.

For the most part, the big spread is with travel/cargo trailers, then passenger vehicles and finally BRP in the toy catagory. Haven't seen any poo or cat prices that would have me rushing to the Dakotas.

Sorry if you took any offense to my post. I just don't agree that BRP or any manufacturer should void a warranty on their product because it was bought in the states. It sometimes seems as though dealers are reluctant to help you whether you bought your sled down south or from a competing dealer down the street. Some dealers have the mentality that "if you didn't buy your sled from us... back of the line, jerk...". And that's if they decide to help at all. I know it's not the dealer's fault that BRP won't warranty the sled, but the dealer shouldn't use that as an excuse to treat you poorly or delay working on your sled. :(

Ironically enough, my last 2 sleds were bought new from Canadian dealers that were willing to give me a fair price. I wasn't looking for them to sell me a sled at cost or match the prices in the US, but I also wasn't looking to pay the full suggested retail price either. :nono:

When I purchased my last sled, I had walked into the closest and biggest dealer in Edmonton. I won't say their name, but it might rhyme with Nartin Bequipment...

I had cash in my pocket and couldn't get a cent off or an item thrown in. I went out to the parking lot and called 2 other dealers before leaving. Both dealers quoted me a lower starting price. So, I made an offer on one and after a little negotiation, we settled on a fair price with a few extras thrown in and I went to pick it up.

I really do believe in supporting local dealers otherwise we won't have local dealers to go to when we need them. And, where else are we going to try stuff on before buying it on ebay... :d (just kidding... okay, maybe sometimes...)

This crap is getting old, there is no dealer that will agree with anyone going south to buy. This is my take on this. I have bought 3 sleds from states and 4 sleds from around here (edmonton) area, I don't care what dealer gets pissed because if there is a sled I want and if they cannot get it, then south I go. I have also bought a sled a quad from riverside, 1 artic cat quad from white court, 2 sleds from gibbons, 1 sled from t&t in bonnieville and so on. So when I go to one of those dealers with a problem on the items I got from the south, I get service and it is pretty good, So I know that we can piss off the dealers for some things, but there are alot of dealers that should not be a dealer and if some end up closing there doors because some go south then to bad. That is not our problem, the ones who go out for the customers with service, parts and sales will be be around no matter what, it might sound like alot of people go south but there are only a few that might buy new down there. 98 % buy 2nd hand and that has nothing to doo with dealers here, I never worry about warranty because most dealers will blame it on something else anyways....My 2 cents.....Rant...
