depends where its broken.

but if it broke stressed might be able to apply heat ot the clutch shaft and it may pop off.

then you can just thread it out.

never apply more than the clutch bolt torque to the puller. 75ftlbs.

You might have a really hard time drilling the puller as its hardened steel. How far down did the puller break off? Is there any of it sticking out past the clutch?

So after getting to clutch bolt torque what's the next step? Hydraulic pressure?

like he said apply some heat and it might just pop right off, i always found if i went for a lil ride before i went to pull the clutch it poped off easier

after you get your broken puller out, throw it in the trash and never buy another one. use the water trick, you wil be amazed how fast and easy it works. in case you (or anyone else) haven't seen or heard of the water trick, here are the simple instructions....

1. Remove clutch bolt.
2. Tip sled on it's side, so the clutches are facing up.
3. Fill bolt hole with water.
4. Wrap clutch bolt with 2 wraps of teflon thread seal tape. (yellow gas line tape preferably, but more layers of white will work too)
5. Thread wrapped clutch bolt into the hole, and tighten until the primary pops off.

If it doesn't work and bolt threads through the first set of threads in the fixed half, remove bolt, re-wrap and start over. be sure to wrap the tape the proper way so it stays on.

good luck.

If you're having trouble maintaining a seal try using gear oil instead of water. But try water first as the cleanup is easier!

it works every time for me, but I've heard some say that they can't get it to work. gave up trying to get the fixed half off my old '01 800, but the sliding half on those TRA's came off easily. I broke the puller off inside that clutch, my pops got it out using an acetylene torch and managed to not scar the threads.

then it happened to my '08 XP, I tried every trick I could find and nothing worked until I read and tried the water trick. grease on the puller, boiling water, rubber hammers, cold sled and heat to shaft, freezing water inside hole with bolt in, riding the sled with clutch bolt loose, everything short of trying an impact wrench on the puller like the dealer suggested and nothing worked.

someone had to think up and try the water trick for the first time, that guy (or gal ;) ) deserves free beer for life.
