Just had to replace the reeds on my 800 etec engine with 1000 kms. In a 2012 Summit and I am a pretty restrained rider.

Just wondering if this is fairly common or fairly rare. Is it something caused by operator error or what? Would be nice to know if there is something I should or should not be doing?

If it's anything similar to boosted sleds, a quick way to take them out is hitting over rev or backfire.. They don't last long in those two situations

A very easy way to known your reeds are leaking excessively or chipped is to hit reverse when engine is cold.. If your sled is stock and it takes a few times to get reverse its a good sign of a problem..

ussally reeds last a long time thou with out boost

What were the signs they needed to be replaced

It sounded like a bad plug and/or fuel. Had both replaced and thought it sounded OK but the tech at Martin said still didn't sound quite right and it had a "bauble." He took it for a test ride and said it ran fine at throttle but when you back off the throttle it stumbled.

Might have been guilty of that. Will let warm up a bit more. Thanks for the suggestion.

Brp has updated their reeds, the petals are a different shape at the end of the petal instead of being straight, suppose to be last longer and not chip as easily

If you take a look at the parts fische for different years they have changed every year..2014 they started making ones that last. My 2013 reeds were toast at 800 miles.
