Broken camshaft

Anyone know what would cause a camshaft to break ?
This is from a 1994 4.5 liter land cruiser engine.
Does not look like anything else is wrong.

Just spitballing it here but maybe a hung up lifter. Something stalled it or it was just it’s time.

Oil Pump Issue?

Does the oil pump run off the chain end or the back end?

I would suggest taking it to a metallurgist, and get a report... Could be deeper problems than just a broken camshaft?

Replacing the engine.
After looking at the pistons

Yes but this is what it looks like with the head pulled,
the first ones were taken through the sparkplug hole
Now we have 2 engines.
