Hey guys I am wondering what everyone does with there dog while camping ? I have brought mine when we are in a isolated camping spot where no none is around and he does fine. But when there is other campers near he likes to go and say hi and most people don’t enjoy that.... I am curious what everyone does? I have tried to tie him up but we do camp with other dogs and the get tangled up and it’s a nightmare. Looking for some solutions !

If the dogs are running in a big pact your screwed, hopefully they all get along, we sometimes send dog to kennel for a weekend if we think it's going to stress us out quite a bit....we sometimes bring a kennel with us but worry if kids poke the cage or other dogs there will bug him anyway

Most campsite pets must be leashed. When I had my dog she was extremely well trained and rarely wandered from our site, she was a small dog and most people were not threatened by her( if she wandered she was immediately leashed). Larger breeds can be more aggressive or appear more aggressive thus people are intimidated and want you to keep them leashed. If it is posted then I would leash my pet while there.Just my 2 cents.

I usually camp in small groups where it isn’t an issue but still have to keep an eye on him. When going to a campground he is on a leash or long cable attached to the trailer 90% of the time.

It depends on your dogs. Camped with dogs that are great and liked having them around. Camped with dogs that that were horrible to be around. Camped with one guy I told him to put his dog back in the trailer or I was going to shoot it! It was a big dog and almost bit me and then it bit at a toddler! The guy just sat and watched it happen and didn’t say anything!

reminds me of a situation while camping at a BC Forestry camp ground. Our friends had a German S. and was off leash because there was maybe 10 other campers there during a Thanksgiving holiday. Anyway, people camping about 3 sites away just finished cooking a roast put it on the table and went inside to get more stuff when our friends' dog snatched the freshly cooked roast and came right back to us. They quickly took the roast and hid it and the people came over asking if we seen anyone take their roast and we had our poker faces on LOL

We usually try to camp in the back country. Can’t remember the last time I stayed in a campground. But there always seems to be other people close enough. All the dogs do get along very good surprisingly but like to run once they see something or hear it... and he is young so he is hyper but not one bit aggressive. Hasn’t ever shown a sign of aggression yet. He is a very submissive dog. Just curious what kind of training to get home to stop visiting people. I was also wondering about a wireless dog fence while camping or a shock collar ? He has wired dog fence at home so he used to that

It’s usually not the dog it’s the owner of the dogs lol that are the issues.
Shock collars are extremely effective,but you must shock yourself with it first to see what you are doing to him,and of course good parenting first and foremost.and yeah untrained dogs are not welcomed anywhere,always be the boss!

All depends on the people around you and if they are dog people, if they have a dog of their own and if they do how the dogs interact. We have a great dane, biggest baby in the world but understandable that people are a little scared of her. Shes just a big dog. When we go camping we have a long lead and usually have her on that which keeps her to our site, but if we have friendly neighbors that seem to enjoy dogs then we let her wonder a bit. Or take her for a walk to an area we can run her so when we get back to the campsite she is lazy and just wants to relax. She is good at sticking around our site and returning when called, if your dog will run off and not listen when called then I can see a cause for concern.

Dogs are a better judge of people than we are, that being said you can never tell how your dog will react to someone new! And big dogs at that point become an issue. I had never seen my little dog be aggressive towards anyone, a friend of the family came in that she did not know and she was very aggressive. You just never know so best to never put you loved family pet into a situation where they bite and have to be put down!

We always took ours. Kept him on air plane cable. He would chew through leashes as a pup.
Biggest issue was we couldn't leave him alone. Tied up outside he'd get tangled and wreck stuff. Howl and bark and whine. Annoyed everyone else.
Left him inside the trailer he'd eat the blinds shred cushions and make a mess.
Thankfully as he got older he did become better. But we still never left him at the trailer alone.

we take our dog to our camp all the time. If we are at the beach that is at our camp he is in the trailer and is great. on the boat he is with us. in the camp he is loose unless there is other campers around. we have a shovel ready for any poops
Training... our dog rarely wanders, but we were super strict when she was a pup. She does get on guard and barks if a stranger approaches, but will always stop if told to. We just put her in trailer if we take off to the lake, or for a good sized ride. Not a fan of shock collars for training, but we got one that had sound, vibration, and shock with a remote. Worked very well for training. Think I only used the shock once. She learned quick. Noise meant pay attention, vib meant stop, shock meant you didn’t listen. Now she has learned to stay close unless she has permission.

when camping around others, tie your dog and keep it quiet. if you can't or don't want to do either of those things, leave the dog at home or camp where no one else has to put up with that sh!t.

We always take our Husky mix with us - have found running a rope between two trees about 8' up threaded thru her leash works awesome. No tangle's lots of movement.
