Boosted axys chain to belt?

Looking at buying a 2017 axys800 3” chain drive with boondocker sidekick and converting it to a belt drive. Any insight would be appreciated as this is new to me, ie
Good or bad setup, what belt drive, gearing etc. I ride in Canada b.c. Thanks

I would not waste the money. Did this to an 11' Pro H.O. Boost-It and very minimal difference felt between the chain to the belt.
In chain I trust

Just change the sprockets to get a different gear ratio. You can get very close to the belt gearing without having to change your chain..

What gear ratio is recommended for a boondocker sidekick with 3” track?

Stock 3" is 19 / 44, which gives a final of 2.517

I went to a 20 / 43, which gives a 2.337 (much closer to the belt drive gearing). This combo loads the turbo nicely, I am running the Sidekick with this gearing on a 163 3".

No change in chain with this either, a very cheap and easy switch.

I’ve ran about 3500 miles on 8-10 pounds boosted pro never had a problem with my chain drive. Rode buddy’s boosted pro with a belt drive last year and blew a belt in under 5 minutes. Some guys swear by belt drives but I’m a firm believer of chains for high hp. if a apex running 400hp through a chain does not fail my 220 will be a walk in the park.

A little insight. First you will lose about 2 lbs with a TKI kit and with most being rotating mass. Secondly the belt is set fairly loose so don't be surprised when you have to lock your parking brake when you stop on a slight incline. Also when it comes to gearing and a turbo I disagree with the masses that want to gear up for a turbo. To me this makes no sense. You are already running heavier weights so your clutch is pushing shift out much sooner anyway. So with the turbo you also have no boost at engagement and those weights, with the lag will potentially hurt your bottom end performance. So low gearing is what you want. If you hit full shift out you are already doing 130 kmph anyway and even a powerful sled is unlikely going to sit at that speed on any incline. Low gearing makes it easier to get into the boost as it reduces initial load on the motor. The chain drive models I am familiar come with gearing at 2.32:1 (equivalent to 8 tooth with 2.52:1) This gearing we go with is the same and the gears are 58:25. To compare to the 8 tooth driver the divider is .92 for 3" 7 tooth drivers and .875 for 2.86" 7 tooth drivers.

The belt drives can definitely be noticed but if you run your track really tight it is less noticeable as the free wheel feel is less pronounced when the track is hard to turn. Tracks that turn by hand compared to tracks that bind when turning is what we are getting at here. I know the manufacturers like the tracks tight and say it can even improve performance but if you reduce friction you should notice it if you are intune with your sled. Each to their own.

Rode 2 2019 AXYS 174's this weekend. Both 100% stock and both at the same hours on them. Only difference is one had the TKI belt drive but both had the same gearing. A Doo rider jumped on both to test and said the one with the belt drive clearly had more zip than the one with the chain.

I have had 4 boosted axys 2 with belt and 3 chain. Blew 3 belts no chains. Also seen multiple TKI belts break on other turbo sleds.
Personally I’d never go belt again. Also I felt the chain actually has more response because the belts have to be so tight. I may be wrong with this but multiple tiles we have have 2 of my sleds on the hill at the same time and the belt seem to be the slowest to jump up
On the snow. If your really into belt drive I’d look at the specialty Motorspots see if they released the Axys kit yet. TKI looks gold on a shelf but the only ones I’ve been around have all failed and they all have massive amounts of belt dust around them even when tension is set right.

The set up that comes with the boondocker set up you isn't the greatest. I would look at getting a Camso X3 for your track.

And depending on your budget, adding a team tied secondary is an awesome upgrade.

oh ya..... whats 44 divided by 19? 2.32

If your not changing the drivers, than thats the gearing.

Correct. but thats how they come stock. So why would you think that would affect the gearing? if you make a driver change, then you have affected you overall track speed. Not your gearing.

163 2.6
163 2.6 with pro gears and powder freaks driver
163 3”
163 3”

I’m not going to say that it’s drivers or gearing alone but the performance difference in the chain and 3” with better gearing is massive and it is much more responsive low end and belt heat is way lower on the 3” with chain case.

Yes, the belt drive sleds have very high gearing at 1.95, and the chain case models are 2.32.

maybe I'm missing something here, but how do you figure changing your driver size isn't affecting your final drive ratio?
