I think I challenged test at trade show 10 years ago took like 5min. It should basically say watch out for other boats and just like your car we would like a sober driver.

Not sure if stats went down but I actually took the test seriously and did a little studying.
For Alberta lakes as said stay sober and watch for other boats and mostly don't drive like a dick.

For channels, large bodies of water, technical water depth areas and knowing how to use bouy markers properly ya there is a need to educate the masses even if only the regular 20% retention is achieved.
Safety gear and how many carry the mandatory bathmetric map for the body of water ther are on.
Helps you find the good fishing spots also.

It takes like 4 hours online I hated it.You can take up to a year to finish the chapters.....I was having trouble with all the stupid ocean questions.
