I'm thinking that putting one of these on the trailer can't be a bad thing. Would appreciate any input on the issue, like brands, good place to buy,and do they work...

Can't remember the name but I'm sure some one else will. The outfit making the screens was outta sask. great quality and price wasn't bad. Seen em on lots o lunds. Worked great. Followed your trailer lines half way down boat. No rocks for sure

I have a 18' Searay with a Shorelander trailer. Installed a "Bow Buddy" screen system on it. Here's a link for them, made in Kamloops.
You should be able to find a local dealer that stocks them. I believe it was around $500.
Looks a little goofy online, but it's made quite well, and fit's my setup perfectly. Works like they say, no rock chips after a couple years of using it. Still looks like new.

how is it to run your boat winch

It can be done, but you have to stand on the tip toes, reach over and down to get the crank. Since it only takes 30 seconds to remove the screen, I usually take the one side off, so it's not an issue.
The post that holds the screen up, bolts onto the main beam of the trailer. So depending on the trailer setup, it's a little different on each application.

Love mine! Really saves the boat. Can't remember the brand, but they go on really easy, and as noted above the are easy to remove.
