Borrowed a buddies (2012) 1200gs for most of last summer and LOVED it !!! super fun to ride , comfy, and fast. I found it rode hwy super nice but the 1200 was a bit heavy for off road, I wouldn't trade my 1500vulcan for it because im a long distance tour guy but after riding the 1200gs I would jump on a good opportunity for a 650/800 and have the best of both worlds the 1200 was prob a better hwy bike but was a PIG offroad so id imagine the 650 would be the light off road fun and city zippy bike. If its a good deal JUMP on it if your not a tour guy and just want a fun comfy all around bike, I may be looking for a 650/800 for a 2nd bike this fall if oil prices don't come back up :)

I have a 2010 1200GSA, best bike i have ever owned. Amazing for long distance touring, city commuting and offroad. I have ridden a F800GS and they are a really fun bike to ride, less torque than the 1200 but damn close in HP and quite a bit lighter. The F650GS is just a smaller packaged detuned F800 so really you could go with either the 800 or 650 and get the same engine just in a different wrapper so to speak.

Reliability shouldn't be an issue with a BMW, they are normally pretty solid bikes. The only issue is when something does go wrong the parts are pricey.

go to advrider.com and do a search. some are bad, some are good. lots of stories of leaking final drives, and they had a problem with front fork legs snapping off on some year/models of GS bikes. of the people having problems, BMW was a nightmare to deal with on warranty claims

So - a couple months later how are you liking the bike? I bought a 1200 GS last month and love it!
