From what I’ve found from talking to Yamaha, Thunder Products and members on forums is a few things causing issues with belts.
#1 has been secondary rollers/spring
#2 Alignment and Deflection
#3 pre-wash/Break In procedure
#4 heat/letting it cool from long hard pulls climbing or long boondocking periods
#5 snow getting inside the clutch area.
I blew one belt during first 230kms of riding my sled alignment and deflection wasn’t set to what is the accepted best from guru’s. I’ve gotten 300kms now on Belt 2 so far and looks brand new still.
I pre-washed belt with soap/water let air dry
I set my alignment to 61.1mm offset
Cleaned both primary and secondary clutch sheaves
Installed secondary spring from thunder products
Made sure the deflection was 1mm above the sheave
And I’ve broken the belt in properly 36kms varying throttle until I hit the alpine and then let it cool before riding normal
Hoping to get 1000kms+ out of belts see what happens. Hope this helps.
It was 1450km lol and I was really pushing it in 4 feet of snow when it finally let go I don't know if I've pushed a belt that hard ever more than 3/4 of those km were in crazy deep snow. I did pre was the grime off belts and wipe clutched down with degreaser. I did feel some slippage on the really fluffy days think there is a few spots where snow was getting in a arm bolts and bottom plate have since been sealed.
