I hoped as much. There isn't any "free play" in the crank when I tried to wiggle it. I'm sure I messed up the jug riding it after the first squeak, but I didn't think a chopper is any cheaper than a jug???

I broke my 08 on Saturday at Allan Creek. Playing in some powder, then carved up a small incline.... and it felt like somebody hit the kill switch. Grabbed the pull cord praying it would move, and nothing. Waited a few minutes, turned it over, and it fired up. Got most of the way back to the cabin before it seized again. This time when it cooled down enough to move, it didn't sound good when I slowly pulled the cord. Had to get a turbo yammy and a buddy's Rev hooked up like a train to make the last 2 hills before the trail. I haven't looked at it since we muscled it up onto my sled deck. Any bets on crank vs top end?
I'm gonna bet top end the first time it seized....I got mine started again after it seized and just shut it off, then hauled it home. my jug has some marks on it but I'm hoping it's just aluminum and will clean up with some muriatic acid. 'doo wants $975 for new jugs....ouch

Shell 91 for fuel. This trip I got it at the Shell in Hinton. I figured enough guys from Hinton fill up their sleds there, and I have never had a problem with Shell fuel before... not sure what else would cause it though? Roughly 2400km... I think. I haven't looked at the ODO the last 2 trips. Not a lot of kms though....

Is that price without the core? I ended up paying 519 for a new set of jugs... I would be looking elsewhere.

Damn mono blocks :realmad:

I am wondering if I should take the sled to a dealer to get looked at. If I have a heated garage and most tools, what, if any, special tools would be required to do a repair like this myself? I'm guessing a piston ring compressor, but not sure on what else. I have tore apart everything except the block/jugs on sled engines before, and am confident in my abilities. I am just scared that I will put it back together, and it will blow up again. As well, I don't have anything to check crank runout, as this is something I would like to do at the same time...

I think it's time to get intimate with the insides of an 800R engine..... Anybody know where to get something I can check crank runout with?

what all do you have to take apart on an xp to get the engine out in one piece, or put it back in that way? I was kinda looking at that and it looks like the steering post, as well as the secondary tower and upper front support braces would have to be removed. has to come upwards a long ways to clear the e module

wasn't it tough to get to the tower bolts inside the tunnel with the track on? never really looked, just trying to visualize it in my head....
