So tomorrow is D Day for Albertan farmers like myself. Nothead is going to push her glorious Bill 6 through the legislature for second reading without any consultation with farmers on the matter. Her answer to province wide protests and petitions? Don't worry she says. We can work on the details once it has passed. Anyone on here that can give an argument against trusting a politician?

They (NDP) consulted on who is important to them....alberta federation of labour....unions have always backed the NDP and here is a thank you back with 40,000 possible new memberships

Its funny though I haven't come across anyone who has voted for the NDP in this past election, but here we are.

There is currently 2 petitions on Facebook making the rounds. One against Bill 6 and one for recall legislation to send to the Speaker of the House. That one I am told needs 50,000 signatures to force the Speaker to call another election. There are currently 35,000 signatures as of this morning. If someone on here has the ability to post those here every signature counts. I am not tech advanced to do that. Lol.

Ha, I imagine if all it took was 50,000 signatures to get rid of them I have some oilfield friends that would happily sign.

I am not sure but it is what other guys are saying that have passed along the petitions.

As bad as Bill 6 is I think there may be something even more sinister ahead. If any of you recall, back in 2011 Ted Morton and the PC's introduced 4 new pieces of legislation that were horrible attacks on landowner rights. At the time Bills 19, 24,36, and 50 were condemned by rural Alberta, the Wildrose and…..the NDP!!! One of the concerns was this legislation could be disastrous if a socialist gov't ever came to power. "Never gonna happen in Alberta" they said. Well, here we are. And now the NDP just loves this legislation. No more talk of repeal anymore. It will be used to punish landowners and the energy industry, neither of which vote socialist.

My fear is that Bill 6 is simply the start. A gov't now so infiltrated with the most extreme radical lobbyists for environment, labor, and social justice is going to mean a province that we won't recognize in 4 years. It's really sad. When they don't give a damn about the people growing our food, their families, kids in 4H, the oil patch, you know it's over. Scorched earth.

As good as that sounds....I don't think we have the legal right to recall a politician in Alberta.....please prove me wrong

Actually there was a letter to the editor in the Edmonton Sun a few days ago.....even signed his name on the bottom. He said that he voted the NDP because he wanted change and he said if The Not-hole gang would have been upfront of the changes they were planning on ramming through, he wold have never supported them. He asked for his vote back...lol

I know this concern is small peanuts but the way this bill is currently written, I will no longer be able to go for a sled/quad/ dirt bike ride on my grandparents and/or cousin's farms? Or be able to hunt on them? Since I wouldn't have WCB coverage I wouldn't be allowed on the "worksite".

Regardless I'm furious about this bill and how the ndp has gone about ramming it through with no consultation to those who will affect. I grew up spending my summers and weekends working my grandparents farm. I wouldn't trade that for anything. I was always taught to work safe and use common sense. I never have had an accident and I still have all my limbs. And yes I drove trucks, tractors, rode in the back of a truck and rode shotgun with my grandfather on the tractor countless times. To see that stripped away will surely destroy a significant part of Alberta's heritage and culture.

Well we voted them in! Time for employment standards on the farm just like everywhere else.

AB is the last Province to adopt WCB coverage for farmers. Only 25 fatalities on the farm in 2014 - I don't understand the problem.

Considering the size of the industry and the number of people working on the farm, the safety performance is pathetic. We only know half the story because there has been no requirement to report farm injuries.
